Using ipads for observations

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone is using tapestry in their settings. I am wanting to use this method but unfortunately tapestry don't send a rep to demonstrate. My head teacher, quite rightly, would like to see it in action. My question is would anyone be able, or willing, to share their ideas and experience by commenting on here or maybe even giving a demo ? I'm not entirely sure this the place to discuss this. Thanks in advance

Has anyone had any children stay with you at nursery and defer starting reception class? Just wondering how it all works.

Hi we have decided not to go with Eexba this year but do our own. I think I will still use leuven scales to look at well being and I plan on just using development matters to see where the children are. What's everyone else's thoughts? Do I need lots of evidence, tasks etc to prove where they are? Thanks x

A colleague has an interview for a TA post in reception and has to carry out a ten minute mathematics activity with a small group. Does anyone have a 'foolproof' (or interview proof!) activity they could recommend? Thank you! :1b

Hi, I have been teaching for donkey's years but currently am feeling so confused about what is the best way of working in Reception. I use the environment as the third teacher, currently run focus activities that we call children to and have challenges around the room but also lots of opportunities to do child-led play inside and out. Read lots of stuff on abc.does and trialled 'objective led planning'. Reading lots of stuff on 'Keeping Early Years Unique' Anna Ephgrave etc that suggests that even that way of working is too determined by the adults agenda and what they should be doing is choosing their own play within an amazing continuous provision. BUT- I don'…

Hi I am looking at what we ask new parents to fill out at home about their child coming to school. We read these before September and discuss them on the home visit. Our form looks tired so I'm looking to revamp it and wondered if people would mind sharing what they use. TIA Deb

Observations

I have a question about observation and different methods, I am a student so still on a big learning curve. I'm on a placement and there is a child there who has such a quiet voice that I really struggle to hear them when they are speaking, even when they are speaking directly to me and I am on their level I still don't always hear them ( this is the same with other practitioners) How can I do some different observations of this child? If I sit near them they just smile at me and stop talking, I'm trying not to intrude but I need to be close to hear them. All help gratefully appreciated, many thanks in advance.

Helping a child with numbers

Hi I'm new to EY and on a placement in a FS2 class, there is a child in the class who I have noticed can recognize numbers but cannot write them. For example if there were objects and numbers on a piece of paper they could count the objects and then identify the right number and draw a circle around it. If it was just objects they could count the objects but then would not be able to write the number. How can I best help this child? Many thanks
