Hi I have a summer born child entering reception in September who is confidently reading. Books in our scheme that meet the child's required level of challenge are no longer picture books but early chapter books. The child is still very young and wants picture books. So I was wondering if anybody had a list picture books for gifted and talented young readers. I remember years ago having one from penguin books with titles like Dinosaurs and all that rubbish which gave rise to lots of discussion and comprehension. (however now ant find it!) Any suggestions greatly received. Thank you

Progress in Foundation Stage 1 2

Hi I work in a school and take the lead in EYFS. I had a question about what does good progress in nursery and reception look like and more importantly how can it be measured? I understand that Ofsted have stated that children should be coming in nursery aged 3 being secure within the 22-36 month band and secure within the 30-50 month band for reception. My head wants me to be able to tell him not just how much progress a child should make but how it can be measured and analysed to identify children who may be in need of additional support. This is what he is able to do for children in Key Stage 1 and 2. There is national data to support a school's analysis. There i…

Early Learning goals on planning

Hi Folks, Sorry to sound stupid but....when you are planning, is anyone still using statements from the development mattters (ages and stages) as their objectives to begin with or should we just be putting the ELG's down on our planning as that is the ultimate goal we are heading for. I know this sounds a daft question but someone told me that we can now only use the development matters as a ref guide and shouldn't be referring to it. Hope that makes sense..what do you all do? Many thanks,

Hi all Well I hope you all had a fab summer now it's back to school time it seems to have whizzed by! I have started a new job as EYFS leader and have suggested we don't send the children out to play with the Infants as it breaks up the morning. I was wondering how everyone else manages this or whether you still have assembly and playtime in your Reception? It has been agreed that it is a good idea not to break the morning up however fitting in adults breaks is a bit of an issue. I've been in nursery so am not used to having a break at all but some people are and we don't want to make EYFS feel isolated from everyone else. Just wondered how other schools do it? We'r…

Using Pinterest at school

Hi, I would like to be able to access my Pinterest boards at school to share ideas with colleagues. Any ideas how I can bypass the school's filtering system, especially as Pinterest is so linked to Facebook? Also, can you save You tube clips on your stick and then view them at school? Thanks
