When would you say a child has achieved this point - i think i am looking to deeply into it e.g. waiting for children to ask their friends for help, for example- holding the sellotape while they cut it. At present the children always ask an adult if they need some help- do you think this is enough to say they are covering this Development matters point.

I know we need to report to our parents on all areas of learning - but do you inform them only of the ELG's a child has achieved or include something that shows the ones they haven't ? We were thinking of some sort of column that would show which ones they had achieved and then a column which would show those their child was still working towards so that parents had a more rounded view of where there child was. We would then add a personal comment regarding the child's progress under each area of learning and a target for next year.

Dear all, Do the ELG relate to children aged 60+ or are they for children between 40 and 60 months old? I ask this because you see that 40 - 60+ have the Development Matters descriptions in light black and the ELG correspond to bold black. Before these two were divided in green stepping stones and grey goals. Can someone help me understand? Best regards, SmileyPR

Hi, I have a question for Peggy (and anyone else who may be doing this). I was trawling through here and stumbled upon your long term planning and delivering the aspects through stories, the post was quite old (2006) I think and I just wondered do you still do it this way, was it successful - do you have a long term plan you could show me? I wonder if this is a way we should go as we find our children have such deprivation in stories. thanks Jo

Reception Reports

Hi hope you can help! This year we have introduced summative assessments which are written up at the end of each term. The parents recieve these and the child has 'next steps' identfied on them. The summative assessment, reports on the 4 themes so the detail about what a child can do exactly in CLL and PSRN is limited. Normally at this time of year we write reports that comment specifically on the 6 areas of learning with a space for teacher comments at the end. The report also has statements such as I can form my name correctly...I recognise numbers to 10 etc which we mark with a s for support, a for achieved and e for excelled. My query is that I do not really want…

Has anybody got any suggestions my brain is feeling a bit fuzzy after 3 days in bed with throat infection . Any suggestions much appreciated! Q xx

Hi, just starting to think about the dreaded end of year written reports to parents. The formats i have had previously are far too detailed and take a ridiculous amount of time to complete. Would anyone be kind enough to share their formats with me, or tell me what you include in yours? Here's hoping! Thanks, Anj

Year 1 Literacy Planning

I'm so confused! I've had a break of a few years and have totally missed the new frameworks coming in and the old strategies going out. I could quite happily plan using the old strategies, but although I thought I had got my head round using the new frameworks, I'm not so sure. When I planned for my observation, I was quite confident in how I had planned it and a friend who looked at it said it looked fine. However, I am not sure if I have got it right. I have a copy of the Frameworks for maths and literacy and seem to understand it. I didn't have a copy to hand when I needed it to plan some poetry, so looked it up on the strategies website and what I found w…
