Help Reception Pre- Moderation Visit
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi, Well I survived Easter and have been working flat out for the last 2 weeks to get my room ready for moderation and to keep my headteacher happy. Had a meeting today where she looked surprised and smiled when i showed her my progress for tracking the children, observations etc. So her next thought is that we would both spend time in my class observing children together and then going through the evidence for three random children. I immediately said that to choose 3 children at random was not appropriate because I would not necessarily have all their evidence collated by next week. (know it should be uptodate all the time but live in real world and too many other iss…

Literacy And Numeracy Objectives
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi, This year has been like a trial and error experience for me as I am new in Reception and I was trying to get my head around the EYFS. Next year we are very likely to be inspected so I am trying to evaluate my planning all the time to make sure it is correct. I do feel like I am still unsure of a couple of things, like, the numeracy and literacy objectives for Reception- with the EYFS in place do we still follow the objectives from the standards site or not? It is just that with the early learning goals, the scale points and everything else I just want to ensure I am right in what I am doing! Please can someone reassure me with the literacy and numeracy plans,…

End Of Year Reports
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi, At this time of year we begin to think of the dreaded end of year reports. I teach in Reception Class and my Report format has to be identical to that for the rest of the school. I just have different headings covering the six areas of learning and development. However, I am sure that I have read it somewhere that we now have to report to parents advising them of the scale points achieved for each area. Am I mistaken?? Anyone any idea please? Thanks.

A question for reception class teachers please...... At point of transfer from pre-school/nursery what information is most useful to you and in what format? In my area - Kent - we have used a 'Record of Transfer' document - this has now been phased out - could still use a version of this but I'm interested to hear your views - I'm sure I am not alone in thinking that I don't want to spend a lot of time producing reams of paperwork that are of no interest/value to you! Sunnyday

This week the children in my class have developed an interest in animal patterns and camouflage. I've got quite a few ideas of how to develop this further next week, but wondered whether anyone had any amazing ideas that had worked well for them? I'm especially wanting to to develop the looking at patterns as part of PSRN. They've enjoyed working with clay this week as well, so i thought we might make tiles showing animal patterns. They loved symmetry when we first looked at it, so I thought we'd look at the symmetry in animals faces. Any other ideas? Thank you!

Hi folks I have been asked some advice from an NQT friend and am passing it on to you nice people! Can you help me help her? Her observations have constantly picked her up on use of learning objectives and success criteria. She has tried.... 1. Telling the children what the objective is for directed activites 'today you will be...'. And for CI activities writing labels and pictures 'Can you build a house for the Gingerbread Man' of 'Count the ladybirds in the tray'etc... However this was not good enough. 2. Shew gave each group a set of feeling fans for the children to self assess how they got on with their adult and independent jobs. For example once they…

Hi, I am wanting to change our long term planning and wondered if anyone could post the theme or topic that has been the most exciting and stimulating for the children, or which have produced the best outcomes. We work using learning walls, but the parents have asked that we provide some theme base for them to then input ideas about. Thanks xx PS Previously we have done the most traditional of themes, but we are definitely ready to 'go for it!'
