Hiya At my school our planning is supposed to be given to the headteacher on the Friday afternoon for the following week so that she will have it to hand to give to a supply teacher if we're off sick suddenly. (Apart from my big illness at Christmas, i am, like most of us, almost never off sick!) This means that either I waste a load of my planning and spend more time writing up planning as I adapt my plans following what is going on in the classroom, or I don't adapt my plans enough. This week, for example, I know we want to start exploring and investigating movement in various ways, but for the rest of the week and term I want to go where the children take it. This mea…

Am manager of out of school link club and not yet been inspected since the introduction of EYFS. Trying to find a system of recording observations, planning and asessment that does not simply feel we are an extension of school. Any feedback from anyone involved in out of school clubs would be welcomed, particulary if you have been inspected recently

Nursery Weekly Planning

Hi, I'm about to start a new job in charge of 65 place nursery and feel that I need to get to grips with where everone is in terms of 6 areas of learning and letters and sounds. Any ideas? Would you stick to topic based approach eg fairy tales and observe eg 6 in am and 3 in pm in all areas of learning and over course of half term get through them thoroughly. Alternatively do all 65 in simple assessment sheet during course of week. Planning has to be displayed for parents so want something loose but enables me to find out where they are in order to plan for future learning. PS school is in special measures. Thanks in anticipation for all your advice xx

Ci, Ad, Ai, Af Activities - Help!

Hi guys, I know I've been doing this job for 2 terms now, and I love it, but I am so confused about the difference between CI, AI, AD, and AF activities and how 'many' of each we are supposed to be including each week - can anyone help me? I'm an NQT but am Primary trained as opposed to EY trained so am slightly out of my depth in this area - but significantly less now than I was in September. I have tried to ask my coordinator... but don't really get a 'proper' answer, so have been following her lead, and she does 1 Literacy adult focussed activity per week with 1 guided reading session for each group every week. Yet to me, this doesn't seem like enough. There…

Hi Im about to begin my 8 week teaching block placement after Easter. I have the class MTPs but due to a bad experience I had on my last placement I seem to have a mental block surrounding planning. I would be grateful for any advice anyone can give me with regards to medium term plans, weekly plans and individual lesson plans. Think my biggest problem is getting going but I am really struggling. I look forward to hearing from all you experts xxx

Hi, we've been talking about the reception planning and how other schools do theirs. We have : long term plans, continuous provision maps, weekly anhancements to provision based on interests and next steps and weekly plans for phonics, lit and num. Should there be anything 'above' this, whereby we record what we have achieved and ensure we hit all areas of learning? Thanks all

This year I was moved out of reception due to my whole being off with my ankle and my friends who job share were put into reception. What with the new EYFS and not having taught in reception for about 20 years they are finding it hard to get to grips with the planning. They are struggling for short term/medium term planning that they can both use. One works Mon-Tues and the other Wed-Fri so they are finding it hard to get stuff to use together. I met up with one of them today and we were talking about it and I said I would ask on here if there were any part time teachers who had some ideas on how to present their short/medium term planning in an effective way. To add…
