Deffering entry to rec

Hi, We have had a response from a parent who wants to defer their child starting in Reception until the term after they are 5 (which means the child will start in January - a whole term later than the rest of the cohort). Has anybody had any experience of this before? If so - what was the impact on the child? How did you manage the situation? All advice greatly received.

Hi Everyone, I need some help! I have worked in a reception class for 3 years. Recently got a new head in school and he is not happy with planning, assessment or the learning journeys, or anything I do it seems. He is giving me 5 weeks to get it sorted. I'm now in a stress and worried about my job. Would any one be kind enough to share their planning.

I have just found out I will have my final nqt observation on Wednesday we are in the middle of a pirates topic but it is healthy living week. I am thinking of the pirates leaving us a teasure map for us to follow to find a basket of exotic fruit and a letter explaining that they cannot decide which fruit is the best can the children help them? Class to explore and taste fruit. HA independently write letter back to pirates saying which they liked best using addjectives to describe fruit. MA to wtite about taste and texture supported by me. LA to work with TA verbally describing fruit. Other chn to assess continuous provision supported by LSA. What do you think? Really wa…

Starting a new job in September and after 4 years in KS2, I'm going to be teaching YR/1 again which I'm quite excited about apart from the fact that I don't know anything about the changes to EYFS and the more I try to find out, the more muddled I get! A friend told me all about Tapestry which I got v excited about (new school have just got new iPads) but then when I spoke to my current school's YR/1 teacher, she told me that they don't do observations any more and just assess at the end of each term against DM. I know the days of the Post-it notes may have gone, but I still expected some sort of observations? If school's don't observe YR children, why are online asses…

Measuring progress

I am attempting to undertake an analysis of our childrens data from the on entry assessment to the end of year assessment and I was just wondering .. How do other people measure this/ identify what is an expected level of progress / what is better than expected ie: if a child enters at 30-50s and leaves at 40-60 s would you see this as 1 age band progress - but then add in their EYFSP score - ie if they scored a 1 - this would still be 1 band progress or if they scored a 2 then it would be 1band + progress / if a 3 then 1 band ++ progress. I am trying to show that although some of our profile scores do not meet nationals from last year the children have still made good…

Hi I have been asked to explain to some colleagues how to use first reading books, without words. I wondered if anyone had any great hand outs about it? Or know where I could find a powerpoint? I've been using them for years but ask me to speak to a group of colleagues and my brain turns to mush. Thanks x

I am in need of some help and advice. I am getting observed by my head and maths co-ordinator on Monday and they would like to see Maths with a focus on extending the HA and progress seen in the 30 minutes. I have a class of Reception children and a possibility of 3 objectives. Either 'Using everyday language to talk about size...LA/MA using non-standard measurements and HA using standard measurements.' Maybe starting the input with counting forwards/backwards to get their maths hats on or something similar. Then linking measuring to Jack and the Beanstalk?? Any ideas of a context? The children have to measure some plants and record their results and then apply their …

Hi All I have a new job for Sept and have just found out due to a change in organisation I will have a mixed FS year1 class. There will also be some year 1 children in a mixed year 1/2 class. The children are mostly at expected and it has been made clear they are to access a year 1 curriculum in line with the other 15 year 1 children. The two classrooms are set up very differently. My new classroom is small with only two tables but lovely well resourced clear areas within the environment with access to a small outdoor area. I will have a TA in the morning. I would be very grateful for any advice on how people have managed planning for the two curriculums and …
