Hello everyone, Got an observation next week by my head, and he's having a whole school focus on cross-curricular links with literacy. Obviously a lot of stuff I do is linked to KUW anyway, but was wondering if anybody had any exciting ideas? Class of 13 Reception, 11 girls, 2 boys. Our topic has been night and day. Texts - was thinking of either Peace at last! or Ca't you sleep little Bear? I've already done Owl Babies - which is a pain now, cos that would have been perfect!!! Thanks in advance guys! xx

Does anyone know of a children's story that could illustrate 'not listening' so something goes wrong. I am trying to find something for SEAL. It is for a year one class.

Ive just moved to year1 which I am really enjoying but I am struggling to fill in the more "formal" style planning sheets as my brain computes with FS still. Anyone got any formats which would help me please? My head is keen for planning to be uniform but recognises that planning needs to fit each individuals needs so might be persuaded but Im unsure what I need to show exactly to fulfil yr1 needs. Hope that makes sense!

As part of my performance management, and a whole school focus, we are having a big push on reading. Has anyone got/made/devised an assessment sheet for reading in foundation stage in similar detail to the Ros Wilson Writing level descriptors? In other words, the nine statements to be broken down into tiny steps? Also, had my brain frazzled about attainment on entry by my head - but I think I'll post my queries about that separately!!! Cheers, Nomie x

Ok, maybe I am being a little thick here, someone help. At the moment I am using the development matters statements and dating and highlighting when I have evidence. I looked at the dev matters statements and I cannot understand why the bold statements do not relate directly to the assessment scales. Surely the last 8 dev matters statements should be the ELG's? Am i right or wrong? For example - NLC Higlighting the relevant dev matters statements does not make it clear which ELG a child has achieved. Recognise some numerals of personal significance. Count up to three or four objects by saying one number name for each item. Count out up to six objects from a l…

We are awaiting Ofsted and our head keeps flinging bits of paper at me and I feel a bit like Im drowning!! She gave me something today about 'attainment on entry to reception'. How do you all recod this? Do you give them a score from the EYFS profile which you can then compare with final score at end of year? Do you use Development matters statement? Or what do you all do? I am sat here trying to pull it all together but I feel like crying!! help! xxx

Observing A Teacher Led Activity
by Guest- 4 replies

I wen to visit another setting this afteroon and was quite surprised to see that they use the 2 adults (20 chn.) so that one delivers a teacher led activity and the other observes hw the chn. respond to it and comments on this. This evidence is then used to inform planning. I had always thought that most observations had to be of c.i or child led activites at the very least. There were 6 children with the teacher and the other 14 had free play around the room, but no observations were done on them, except when they came to the teacher led activity. I'm worried about what I do now as I would have put the other adult on play partner/ observing and responding to the free …
