Please Help!

Hello everyone, I've been a member for a while reading all the great advice, but haven't been brave enough to ask a question yet. I teach reception (3 form entry) and have a TA in both morning and afternoon. Before EYFS became compulsory, our school taught rec more as a pre year 1 - with bums on seats and whole class lessons and by the end of last year the majority of my class were writing stories. I did my best to bring play based learning into my classroom and had a happy classroom with very happy, well rounded children (I think....). Here is my problem... we are expecting the dreaded ofsted in feb/mar and the head is convinced that the focus will be on early years.…

Advice Please

Hi all I need some good advice as to what could be potentially a difficult situation. We have a small group of children(4) who are in reception and go to our afterschool club. Although the teachers who hand over the children at 3.15 give the playworkers a quick verbal comment, nothing is written down. Should it be? My thinking is that the reception teachers should make some brief comments, then the playworkers should make some comments (in a small notebook) Parents can then take the book home and return it in the morning with the child to the reception teachers. Do you think this is appropriate or overkill? What do others do in this situation? My conc…

Review Of Progress

Having spent the last three days putting into place what I hope is a simple, easy and effective way of tracking children's progress, putting observations up to date and filling in profiles and learning journeys, I am now wondering if everyone has done a review of progress to show parents how their child is doing, or is everyone waiting until the end of term to write reports? I intend to give parents the learning journeys as they are at the moment, with the settling in period filled out and a couple of photographs, but wondered if there should be anything more. I seem to have spent all my half term up to now doing school work, but if this works, then hopefully my weekend…

Literacy In Reception

Hi, Hope someone who is a bit more experienced than me can help! I have been told I have to do 2 guided reads and a guided write each week. Was just wondering, is this the whole class (in small groups, but do the whole class have to do it every week?) I don't want to end up trying to rush through sit-down group activities so I can 'tick off' that I have done them, thought the FS was more based on individual needs? Hope i am making sense! It just seems a lot, as it is there hardly seems to be any time for C.I. activities!! Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Hi all i hope you have enjoyed your weekends! After half term our topic will be the outdoor environment. We have planned a visit to our local woods which we plan to tie in with going on a bear hunt. However this is the only idea i have so far. I have never done this topic beofre so any activity ideas would be very gratefully received Many thanks Lola

Do you all 'mark off' what ELGs/development matters you cover? There are so many we cover all the time and it seems crazy to do that. I show which I am covering on my CP planning and maths/literacy planning and any other adult led session I do. Is that enough? I don't really have any long term planning, just brief topic names as a starting point for planning. I then mind map from these taking into account the children's interests and in a way my mind map becomes my medium term planning. Does this sound OK? There is another Reception teacher in my school who seems a little obsessed with ticking boxes and I want to get right away from all that.
