I think this topic is very interesting and has come up in a variety of ways in different threads. As I work on my own I am always very grateful for the advice I get on here. I think it would be very helpful maybe if you were all kind enough to give some examples of what you observe and then how you plan for that. I think it would be really great to share ideas. Home corner was turned into a cinema - so we made popcorn, talked about favourite films, characters, made tickets. Cars - different types of travel, sang the song come for a ride in my little red sports car, travel agents, looked at the globe then this linked in with holidays. Pop up house -mum and d…

I'm in need of a little inspiration. We have been talking about our next topic and the children are interested in Bonfire night and witches/Haloween. Not wanting to focus too much on the haloween aspect, because the school have had previous complaints but I still want to keep with the theme that the children have suggested. We are going to tie it in with our autumn work - we will look at Bonfire night and Diwali, doing lots of colour based work. We will also look at spiders and hedgehogs and other hibernating animals. I thought of introducing the witches theme by reading books like Meg and Mog and room on a Broom and then writing a letter to the children from the w…

I use the daily observation sheets and post-its for observations, I am now wanting something to note the children's interests on so when I come to plan I have an idea of what they have talked about during the week to any of the adults in the room. I have seen some pro-formas somewhere that someone had put together. What do you use?

Hi all I want to have alook at the children in my setting and see how I can help to develop from an early stage of play (solitary) to more / parallel co-operative play. Wondered if any of you clever people out there have done anything like this, either as part of some study or as a school based project. I work in a nursery. Any help/links would be very helpful. Thanks in anticipation.

Hello, Im an NQT working in a reception class and all of my training has been in KS1/2 so i feel really lost in the EYFS and constantly worried that im doing the wrong thing, i constantly feel stressed! After helf term im going to be doing a daily lit/num session and a phonics session in the morning and focusing on 2 of the other 6 areas of learning in the afternoon e.g. KUW and CD. Does this sound ok? I really need help on daily planning for example after a 10-15 numeracy/lit introduction i will go off and work with a group developing on the learning that was covered in the introduction. whilst im working with the group what are the other pupils meant to be d…

Hi everyone. I work in a primary school in reception. The school does Big writing further up and they have asked if we could start to do it to get the children familiar with it. Does anyone do this in their setting? What kind of things could I do? Thanks Rachel
