Our topic next term is Magic- looking at fireworks, magic creatures/people/objects/animals etc. I'm struggling to think of some activities to do in PSRN. I have thought about recognising shapes through feeling, but that is as far as i'm getting. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks all Rachel

2 Themes Or 1 ?
by Guest- 3 replies

At the end of half term we asked our children what they would like to learn about - the main response was cars, buses, mototrbikes etc -so we thought we'd go for a transport theme and follow the children's interest - they have already come up with a garage and car wash to start with. However quite a few children said they would like a castle and fairies/princess type theme - so we thought the garage in the outdoor area and a castle inside for role play - however I can see lots of learning coming from both but would we be better sticking to one theme or should we do both if we're following the children's interests? Any advice welcomed !

we have a great role play area at the moment (based on the children's interest in making rockets with small construction) it is a rocket! with old computer terminals, fax machines, a space terrain made out of papier mache (on a unit top), the 'door' is a rocket which goes from the floor to the ceiling. the children have made rockets from junk and planets from plastic balls. It is well used and much loved. Now does anybody know of a story which means we can keep our rocket for Christmas? obviously it would develop along with new ideas, fairy lights, decorations etc. we think we have read one in the past and if we cannot find one I think we will try to write our own with t…

I want to change the way I teach and start planning from the children's interests. Our school currently follows the Hamilton Trust topics which are OKish but I want to move away from this and go with the children. Any advice please? Should I start with my own base topic and then see where they take it? How do I ensure I am covering ELGs etc.

I am considering using the cumbria numeracy plans this year and just wondered if anyone else uses them and how to implement them i.e. do you teach all Block A in first half of Autumn term, then block B next, etc or are you supposed to have a mixture each half term............As you can see I'm a bit confused!! There are 36 weeks altogether which are accounted for in the planning sheets so just want to know what to do and when. Thanks in anticipation, Kermit xx

Assessing
by Guest- 3 replies

Wondering if anyone can give me any ideas, I'm trying to come up with ideas of what I can look at in preparation for initial parents evenings, it is for 3-4, want to have a sheet with what they can do, if they can get themselves dressed, undo buttons, what else could I look for? And also what they do at dinner time, if they can use a knive and fork, what areas could I break this down into? And what else do you think I should look at so I can talk to the parents? Thanks soooooo much

Hi all I have been invited to lead a session on assessment in the FS during an assessment inset day that we have coming up. I would like to show a video clip for my colleagues to have a go at an observation and then match to e profile scale points. I have found a couple of clips on the national assessment agency website but was wondering if anyone knew of any others I could download? Also, have I missed something??? Is this kind of assessment going to be used in the rest of the school in time? Will they need 3 bits of evidence for each national curriculum statement? Or will they have a clearer expectation on paperwork? Thank you in advance

When planning do you have to put an ealry learning goal as the borad objective or can you put some of the objectives which come before the early learning goal as a borad objective.
