by Guest- 6 replies

Just wondering how everyone is getting on with planning through the children's interests and what mini topics are you doing after half term. Would be interested on what others are doing with learning walls and interactive displays. Just want to make sure I am going in the right direction.

Hello everyone, I am feeling very anxious this term and can't seem to get a grip. This is my second year in Reception, 3rd year teaching, and I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing - i did a GTP mostly in Year 4. I feel like I'm failing everyday. What I really struggle with is daily literacy and numeracy whole class activities. The other Reception teacher and I decided to do 2 days literacy and 2 days numeracy, with daily phonics - so that means just 2 carpet sessions in the morning - either maths or numeracy and then phonics. my first carpet session finishes about 9.40am then my phonics is not until 11.30am. I try and get 2 focus groups done so they would…

Hi i am an nqt taken on the role of rec teacher in a school that has no field nd the outdor area which is used for playtimes by all year groups so everything has to be packed away. My one and only shed is so crammed with bikes and cars (the only outdoor provision they had) that i have to store everything in my class and it is not continuous and the kids cannot access it ind. I have asked for shelves etc outside but am not allowed because of health and safety so if any one on this amazing forum has any ideas please chip in x

Hi everyone We are due the dreaded inspection at any moment. I am really panicing about my planning and what I should / shouldnt be doing. The rest of the school have systems in place for planning ie proformas and they all do same kind of thing. I dont feel this is relevant for the FS curriculum. Please could some of you share what you do and how it works. How your observations feed into plans etc. I feel like im going to explode and really need some support. Thanks everyone Jo xx

Hello! I've finally got round to ordering some tongs, tweezers and pipettes for my reception class to develop their fine motor skills - I just wondered if you had any super duper ideas for things to do with them? So far I'm thinking sequins and seeds... might not last me a whole year!!

No Time For Interaction

Can anyone give me some advise about finding time to interact with babies ? Since starting this EYFS, I find that my time is taken up with writing observations or taking photo's to back up the observations. Where's the need for adult interaction gone ?

Sharing Info With Other Settings
by Guest- 15 replies

Under the EYFS requirements, how are you all sharing planning and observations for the individuals who attend other settings? I'm looking for an easy method which is beneficial to both settings (or three settings in some cases if a child goes to childminder, day nursery and pre school)something which isn't time consuming, and won't 'threaten' each other eg some settings are very reluctant to involve other groups, particularly when there is a high percentage of provision in the area, all fighting to remain viable - there is a fear that other groups will 'take' and not be prepared to give. Any advice of what you find works well?

Targets In Reception
by Guest- 4 replies

My school is involved in a pilot scheme for assessment at the moment and is heavily based on targeting for both the class and groups. Classes display learning objectives and plan how to achieve success criteria together. I have adapted this approach as best as I can for my reception year group with a working wall which charts our topics progress during the term, what we want to learn and how we got there. I have now been asked to identify a class target for numeracy for the year and literacy targets for the term and display them on the wall. I seem to be going round in circles as I seem to remember being told by the early years team that we should not be setting class…
