Hello! This is my first post! I am truly grateful for this website and all the support everyone offers! I am new to Reception, and really confused about the literacy. Should I be teaching both phonics (Letters and Sounds) AND doing sentence and text level too? Does anyone use the Hamilton plans for Reception? Thank you!

Hi all This morning as I arrived at school, I was surrounded by spider webs all glistening in the fog and dew. Perfect time to start a topic on spiders and my children couldn't stop looking at and talking about the beautiful webs. Any ideas for the topic - all or any of the 6 areas would be great. Thanks so much

With reception having a focus on Autumn this week. doing lots of supporting activites e.g. Autumn walks, looking at leaves through the microscope, using IWB, sorting and counting leaves etc. Now i have an idea that i want the chn to 'EMERGENT WRITE' an autumn poem in their book, but have no idea how to go about it. Should i give them a tree outline and let them talk and write or shall i stick to a frame like Autumn is_______? what do people think?

Hi, I'm new to reception and am going through my baseline assessments at the moment (head wants assessments for PSED, CLL and PSRN by half term). As I have never done this before I was wondering what your children usually score at the beginning of the reception year. A lot of mine are scoring 2 at the moment with some on 1, some on 3 and a couple on 4 for some areas of PSED. Does this sound about right?

Letters And Sounds

I'm beginning to panic (so what's new) Having looked through some of the planning examples for the first weeks of this term, it looks as if people are introducing graphemes straight away. I've not started yet and was planning on doing some work on Phase 1 - especially alliteration and rhyme because quite a few of mine haven't got the idea, and was then planning to go onto Aspect 7 - oral segmenting and blending - which would probably mean not introducing graphemes until after half term. I know some of my children already know some of their alphabet, but they can't orally blend or segment. As we are awaiting THE call, I'm now worried that they'll say I'm not pushing…
