No topic literacy planning?!

Hello, I love the idea of no topics and I think this works really well for continuous provision and the recent Objective Led planning we have started. However, I am struggling with Literacy planning. Do you find things they are interested in on a daily, weekly, termly basis and plan sessions around these? Thank you in advance!

Hi, as pressure mounts for reception children to achieve a 3 in writing, does anyone start teaching letter formation in Lower Foundation? Ours currently come up writing their names and cvc words but their formation is not right. It then is very difficult to un learn the bad habits! Don't want to force writing too early, any thoughts?

Hi At which stage are the majority of your children in letters and sounds? We are sending some up to year 1 working in phase 4 but a lot are still consolidating phase 3. In letters and sounds are children expected to make a phase progress per term?

'World Cup' themed Maths Observation

Hello Everyone, Please could I have some of your kind suggestions and advice please? I am being observed later in the week for a new position as EYFS lead and have been asked to prepare a maths lesson for a group of 20 reception children. My thoughts have been to base it around the world cup theme - I might play a game to find out how many goals children can score in one minute using ping pong balls and straws. I thought then we could position the scores in order followed by questioning the HA by asking them 'how many more goals did X score than Y?' Do you think this provides enough challenge? Also following the input i was thinking of sending the TA outside to repeat …

I don't see the difference between the 'exceeding' statement: Through their explorations, finds out and makes decisions about how media and materials can be combined and changed and the 'early learning outcomes' for 40 to 60+. To me it seems that the ELG is less advanced than the 40 to 60+ statements, which are more like the 'exceeding' one. The age-band and exceeding statements are more about creativity and independence: 'finds out and makes decisions' (exceeding), 'understands that different media', 'to achieve a planned effect', 'with a purpose in mind', 'selects appropriate resources', 'adapts work', 'selects tools and techniques' (40-60). The ELG, on the other han…

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone could give me some interesting ideas for a Phase 4 phonics session? I am currently without a class (Reception usually) as I have recently returned from Maternity Leave but i have been asked to teach Phonics in the current Reception class for my Lesson Observation this term. The class appear to be securing in Phase 4 at the moment. Feeling quite anxious as i do not know the children too well, and would like to do something a bit different… any ideas!? Pretty please!!!x

Hello Do you plan a separate PSE plan each week or do you tackle things as they arise and as part if your continuous provision? What areas do you have a separate teacher input for?

Hi, Just wondering what you consider to be a problem solving activity? Sorry if that sounds a stupid question but as usual I am thinking to deeply into it ! Due you consider it to be any activity that involves them finding their own way of doing achieving something? So could include creating a model/picture etc , how to solve a role-play problem e.g. stopping the trolls getting in or a more traditional problem e.g. how to move all bricks to the other side of the playground? Thanks, Green Hippo x
