Hi One of the requirements of EYFS is that parents play a part in their own child's assessments. Just wondering how people are managing this? It sounds like a big"ask" especially of working parents. Any suggestions?

Asking As A Parent?
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi I have been working for about 6 months in a pre-school and we are just starting to look at letters and sounds...only 5 mins ...card with A a and then pictures apple , ant etc so nothing really heavy (in fact majority are just too young to notice or are just wanting to get off and play!). The children are asked/encouraged to write their own name on things etc. Now im also a parent of a 4 year old boy who attends the pre-school with me and has just started school in the afternoons. He will be full time after xmas. He has never showed any interest in letters etc, likes for us to read to him every night, but still not interested in writing etc. In fact I have been ha…

Involving Parents In Planning
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi I have put up a display board for parents to add ideas to using post it notes- to involve them in our 'shared planning'. I have put the children's suggestions on too for them to see. However, not one parent has added anything yet. I sent a note home explaining what it was (even said it's very informal and a chance for them to scribble ideas without worrying about handwriting etc) Any ideas? Thanks

Magnetic Letters

Hi I was wondering if anybody could help me. I would like to buy magnetic letters where the digraphs are joined. You can buy them from ELC with a board for £8.00. Really good as all vowel sounds are blue and consonant sounds red. I don't need the board or all the jolly phonics magnets that come as part of the set. I have searched various educational catologues but had no luck. I can't find them on the jolly phonics web site either. Anyone any ideas?? Thanks Jay

Letters And Sounds Groups
by Guest- 4 replies

As the year progressed last year we differentiated into 4 groups for our phonics - A top group - 2 middle groups and a Lower ability group- this meant we could really focus the phonic work each group needed - so the 2 CT and 2TA's took one group each. Everyone had the group for a week and filled in evalyuation sheets as we went so we could plan to their needs -it also meant as a CT you had a pretty good idea as to how each group were achieving - however this year we wondered if it would be better to keep the same adult with each group for a longer period of time - maybe 3 weeks or half a term- does anyone have any ideas on what may work best - ? Thanks!

Hello, we are starting to use letters and sounds this year and we are struggling to see how to plan our literacy sessions to include this. Does anyone have any tips or planning formats, i.e. medium term plans and weekly plans that would help us get on idea of how we can do this? Thanks you
