Data To Show Progress

Hi all In our reception class we used to do pips baseline assessment. However now we carry out a simple assessment we have made ourselves and lenghty observations within the forst few weeks. Doing this has given us so much more information about our children which has been more useful. However our problem was we were left with nothing on paper to say on entry children were here, they have made this much progress and now here. I was speaking to someone at a meeting recenlty and they mentioned that had a grid with area of EYFS on with the age in months across the top and that through their observations they plotted on which stage children were at in each area and they car…

Learning Journeys/journals/stories

Hi, I am quite confused by learning journeys, journals and stories (which I assume are all the same thing!). My class have previously had books for CLL and MD (hardly anything in MD ones so not a lot of point in them really!). They also have a KUW book that I stick any small pictures or writing or anything related to KUW in, and a big folder for anything else, and any large 'work'. I was thinking for Sept, one book would be better as most things are not just covering one area of learning, plus their big folder. Do I have this book as well as a Learning Journey for each child (nopt sure what would be in that other than observations!)? Or do you think a ringbind…

HELP!! As a school we are being 'advised' to set Literacy and Numeracy targets termly for each child and then to display them as 'must' 'should' 'could' with children's photos showing where they are working. As a team in Reception we have said that we do not want to make a display as we have parents who will use the display as a 'weapon' against our professional judgement of their child! We don't 'set targets' as Year 1 and 2 do, but can use our assessments to say what each child's next step in Literacy/Numeracy might be. Does anyone set specific termly targets for each individual child in Reception? If you do, how does it work in practise? Thanks! Debbie

Literacy Planning

Hi all, as sad as this seems I am trying to plan for September in my new Reception class. I am moving from y4 and I need to get my head around everything because I hate being disorganised. The current reception teacher did not really have a clue what they were doing so I am relying on you guys. Really it is just my literacy and numeracy I am concerned about. I know my topic for the 1st half term is ourselves but I am unsure how to plan over my six areas. I want to teach in literacy the phonics at the start of the lesson and then teach to an objective maybe by using a book related to ourselves. The rest of the lesson would then consist of a guided reading with myself and a…

Reception Planning And Timetables

Hi, does anyone have a copy of their daily/weekly timetable they could share with me? I teach Reception in a one-form entry school and we don't have a nursery so I'm doing it all alone, and really struggling to fit everything in! Also, I know there's a lot of information on planning on here already, but if anyone has a copy of some Reception planning based on the new EYFS I could have a look at that would be great. It's hard without a nursery, as I feel it's me versus the rest of the school and the National Curriculum, I'm the only one doing something different! Anyway, if anyone does have anything they could share that would be great Thanks

Literacy In Reception Class

Could anyone please tell me how they plan for literacy in reception?? I am torn between teaching a session each day but it is fitting this in with phonics and all other areas of learning. What do people follow as a structure? Is the 100 literacy hours scheme completely not-usable now (I am not saying I teach literacy hours but does anyone still use this as a guide)? I haven't really looked properly into the new lit framework as it scares me looking at all the overviews - and because its not statutory i am just using the EYFS. However, I sometimes feel like I am just plucking things from mid-air with no structure. Hope someone out there understands what I mean??? Thanx in …

Reception Planning

Hi there, this is the first time I have posted on here so please be kind!!! Hehe! I'm looking for inspiration with my planning systems. I currently do: A medium term plan which really identifies key areas for learning and development we want to address in the term e.g. my cohort are we in the CD area of learning, therefore this term, we have done a big focus here. Weekly planning - more of a timetable and floor plan really - things we want to do and when e.g. adult-led tasks and focussed obs for example and then the floor plan, extra things we are going to add into the different areas. And then we do a daily review of each day And then plan for the whole class…

Hi everyone, I'm an NQT this year working in a one form entry reception class. My head handed me the EYFS document this morning and told me that I need to work from this now! Help! I don't know what i'm doing with it! Has this replaced the foundation stage profile? Are there any planning or assessment proformas for it? And how does it affect the planning? Sorry this is waffley, it's just been a lot to take in today! Thanks Rachel
