On Entry Assessment
by Guest- 12 replies

Hi everyone, I've just been going through my children's results on the e-profile and they seem to achieve so much in the Autumn term. Next year I want to highlight achievment on entry to show the progress made in the Autumn term. We presently use Pips at the beginning of the year but I find it hard to link it to the early learning goals and use it as evidence in the profiles. I've also read somewhere on the NARA website that they aren't keen on us using Pips as evidence anymore. I just wondered what other approaches people use to assess the children's ability on entry? What exciting activities have you got planned for your children this week? We are taking boats we made last week to the pnd in the local park to see if they sail (fingers crossed there wont be too many upset children if any of them sink) we are then going strawberry picking on our way back to school. We will then be using the strawberries to make strawberry shortcake

Hi, I am hoping you wonderful people can help me as my brain is not in gear and I have a lesson observation with my Head on Thursday!! We are learning about mini beasts and the children love the story of the very hungry caterpillar. My focus is a shared write showing how I use Read, Write to help children write? I thought about doing a shared write for own hungry caterpillar stories and then getting the children to write their own. Any ideas better than this or comments about this activity, especially making it exciting greatly appreciated. Thanks x

Please can i just ask how many different forms of assessment/ records you keep. I am a teacher in a reception class i obviously fill in the profile and for this have all the points on a grid and highlight when ch have achieved. I then have to keep a record for every child of their progress according to p-scales for numeracy ( we shouldnt be using p scales i know i have had very heated discussions with assessment co-ordinator luckily our early years advisor is coming into fight our case) we then have to keep a record sheet of every childs progress through the stepping stone to ELG to NCL 1c again which have been matched to pscales. We now have to keep a record sheet for ea…

Hi all, Help! I am a EYFS teacher, newly promoted to EYFS manager and I need some ideas. I think myself and the Year one teacher have made great waves when it comes to transistions from our 2 classes and have attended a few courses. We both undertake child initiated planning and the children have real ownership of learning. We aim to make things as smooth as possible for the children. I have made sure that we do not do P Levels in our class and assessment is observation based and we constantly talk about the children to each other.....but... How do other schools record assessmnet and track progress from the EYFS to KS1? Our only problem seems to be the pa…

At our last staff meeting we were talking aboiut developing effective success criteria , learning intentions and learning outcomes. It all got a little heated - - currently we need to decide as a staff whether we use WALT and WILF or learning objectives as terminology - anyway what I was more interested in was how to develop success criteria with Reception - the head said he wanted to see it for adult focussed activities in Reception - so just wondered what people did ??? do you use anything visually for example? It all became a big blur in the end and some ideas or thoughts or examples would be welcomed
