Started to put my class into ability groups for maths and English in preparation for the literacy and numeracy hours in Year 1 . At the moment I have two literacy days and two maths days and the other areas of learning are on-going on a daily basis. Do we, as Reception teachers, have to do literacy and numeracy hours in the Summer Term? or is there some scope for teachers to decide what suits the class and start to get the children to work in small groups, but not necessarily follow the literacy hour format to the letter? I would be interested to hear what other people do as I am getting my knickers in a bit of a twist!! We think an inspection is looming after Easter and …

Next term we will be learning all about plants, growth, and minibeasts. Have planned to set up a garden centre role-play area inside but could do with some ideas for outside. There is the obvious - such as children participating in gardening, planting, etc, but what sort of writing experiences could I offer? In the classroom the children are going to be writing cards to go with flowers - i..e why do people send flowers? birthdays, weddings etc. Outside I thought about setting up a BBQ and garden furniture and the children write shoppping lists of things they would like to eat at a garden party. But, my class have written lots and lots of shopping lists in the past. I have been asked for an ISP review meeting to provide a raft of data for the whole class. I need to say how many children are working at age-related expectations. What progress has been made by specific under achieving groups (I have been told that these children need to make accelerated progress in order to achieve in line with age related expectations by the year end) Provide evidence of how planning has been adapted for these children. Evidence of the accelerarted progress made , where they have not made it explain why and what actions are taking place or are planned to ensure that they do manage it. I then need to identify which groups are making good progress (wi…

Hi I am after some advice and guidence please We currently do not carry out observations in the sense that many of you's do. We complete daily sheets which in a sense are mini observations of what each child has done each day. These are recorded and photocopied and 1 copy goes home, the other goes in the child's file. These mini observations however are not used for anything else Now i know that we should be carrying out at least one observation a month on each child an using these for our planning etc but it is not the done thing in our setting and as a result there is no paper work to guide us With the new EYFS coming into place soon, i know we have …

Hi everyone ! I was wondering whether any of you experts out there could share any maths activities based on the theme of pattern and the environment that are little bit different or worked really well?? I would really appreciate it as this is for a one day Ofsted inspection that has just been sprung on us, which a pregnant teacher could really do without!! Many thanks in advance!
