Hi, I was just wondering how often every one was observed in their setting? We have an observation every week in our school and think this is a bit excessive? My nerves can't take much more!!!! Thanks Rachel

Hi everyone, I'm in a bit of a stress and need help. Im in a mixed reception/year one class and for music we follow music express. However, I have lost my music express book and this is what we use for planning, does anyone have any plans I could use please for either the year 1 topic of rain, rain, go away or sounds interesting? We have our JARV tomorrow so I really don't have any time to plan anything else. Thanks all in advance! Rachel

I'm due for observations after half term by the 2 deputies and the head and wondered if anyone has any tips for making nursery children sit and listen. At the moment I have a couple of SEN children who refuse to sit on the floor and whilst I let them go off and play, I know I'll be pulled up on this during an observation. There are other children as well who are not mature enough yet to sit and listen .......I need some tips of strategies I can use. I use music to get them together but half of them still need rounding up! I'm worried about getting a poor review

Literacy Observation

Have a literacy observation next week. Topic is growing and I'm supposed to be doing information texts. I have a copy of The Bean Diary so will have looked at this, but can't get children to make a bean diary as they do this in Y1. We have planted beans, and have set up our garden centre. We've done some work on instructions last term, so I was thinking of giving my higher ability group some instructions to follow - planting seeds and leave them to work independently. My lower ability will be doing phonic work outside with my nursery nurse. I plan to have one group working on child initiated activities in the classroom and I plan to work with a middle ability group …

hi i was wondering if anyone could offer some advise about organising staff during child initiated time when children are free flowing. we have 3 recpetion classes that are all linked and an outside area that can be accessed through all classrooms. i want staff to move around and take it in turns to go outide rather than staying in own rooms but not sure how to organise this. i was not sure if setting up a rota would make it to structured and dictated and if staff swoped each day would this stop them building on childrens previous learning and experiences. oh help what could i do?

Letters And Sounds Assessment
by Guest- 11 replies

Just wondered how everyone else was assessing for Letters and Sounds. Our literacy leader says that we should assess at the end of each phase which is a good idea but takes so long. We assessed our September intake at Christmas (phase 2) and now have to assess the January intake (also phase two). The assessment form we have is from PALS and we have to see if they recognise the sound, can name it, can write it. Then we have to se if they can blend CVC words for reading and write them. Also have to read non words, spell and read high frequency words and be able to clap out two syllable words. We also have to lelvel the children for for a piece of writing each term, carry ou…
