today was one of those 'simply full of joy' days at our setting and i just wanted to share that with you! we had happy, busy children.....most of them dressed up and were busy choosing and sharing.....all the usual things really, but with just a buzzzzzz of happy play....you know that sort of session?? just nice........and snack time came and was peaceful, harmonious, happy, sharing and please and thankyou's in abundance. Some of the children then started to play at being doctors and patients, lots of bandages, slings and temperatures being taken in a totally engaged sort of play...... And then I decided to get the tuff spot out, with loads (and I mean loads!! ) of shavi…

Art In Reception
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi everyone, hope you are all well! I work in a mixed reception/Y1 and all my planning is year 1 units from QCA that reception do the same only with lower skills. (im an NQT and this is what I have been told to do from the previous teacher and head.) In art this term we are doing the 'picture this' unit where the children use viewfinders, my reception children find this really boring and can't concentrate enough to complete the activities, which is fair enough as it is quite boring. Just wondering what others do for art in reception, im not very creative, but I really want my reception to produce some good work in art! Any ideas welcome. Thanks

I have a lot of low ability children this year and no high flyers. They did very little reading in Reception and came into year 1 with poor sight word and sound knowledge. I am finding it a real struggle this year any advise greatly appreciated.

Continuous Planning Sheets

Good morning, please can anyone point me in the right direction. I have managed to delete my continuous planning sheets which i found here last year and they have been marvellous. They have the stepping stones and goals in colour down the left hand side, then there is a column for continuous provision activities and another column for planned activities, language etc. I have searched everywhere and just can't find them. I know i can re-type them but it will take so long and we are awaiting an imminent ofsted!! Would be so grateful if anyone can remember where they are. Thanks in anticipation...... Hope you have an enjoyable Sunday.

Open-ended Questions
by Guest- 9 replies

Help!! I have some teaching assistants who work throughout the primary age range and when they are with me in Reception they are finding it hard to ask children open-ended questions. I am trying to compile a list of good open-ended questions to be used generically which I can stick up around the classroom so that when other staff/myself are working with children individually or in a group they are easily accessible. Does anybody have such a list or know of one or shall I write it myself? Miss Piggy
