I'm focusing on 2d shape at the moment and introducing 3d shape next week during an observation using the magic bag activity which I had seen on here. To follow it up I am then going to have a 2d and 3d shape hunt as a focus activity. Our topic at the moment is pirates and I'm struggling as to what to put in the water, creative table etc....any activity ideas would be greatly appreciated

Hello I have a small display area in my classroom -above child height where I display the weeks planning and observation information so that it can be easily accessed by everyone working in my classroom. However, I have been asked to remove it by senior management because "if looks tatty" - it's not! So my question is does anyone else have similar displays, is this good ey practice and does anyone have any documentation i can take to senior management to argue that this is good ey practice? Thanks in advance Hannah

Hey, All staff in my school were told today were we will be next year. I have been moved to year one and originally i was made up as i have worked so hard this year in reception getting my class ready and I was ready for a new challenge. I have had a lot of SEN children this year so it has been tough but when I look at them now I am made up with the progress in attainment and behaviour. However, i then found out I am most likely taking the other class. This is a whole different ball game - this class are terrible! It is a shame as they have had no consistent teacher throughout the year due to one circumstance or another but to still be this badly behaved this far on in …

Hi all, I have been invited for an interview and was hoping someone might be able to help me with some ideas. This is the task: Tell a short story based around the theme of castles to read / present to a group of 6 mixed ability Year 1 children. You will have 30 minutes to read the story and complete a follow up task of your choice. There will be a wooden construction kit and practical resources available to support the delivery of the session. There will be no Interactive White Board or OHP available. The children will not have access to any IT materials. Thanks in advance

Hi We are currently using 2simple early years app at the moment to create learning journeys for our children but as our subscription ends at the end of March I have been looking at what other systems have to offer as well. We have tried Orbit but have found it very complicated and time consuming. Does anyone know whether you can have a trial on tapestry before you subscribe to it?

I have a group of boys who are struggling to get to grips with recognising numbers over 10. Their counting is ok - will improve with practice but I want to put something specific in place to work on recognition. I'm completely out of ideas for activities or games to play though. Has anyone got any?! Ideally outside based. Particular interests include cars, planes/helicopters and guns. They really enjoyed a game we played recently where they had to squirt two numbers and add together to find their score but that is running out of steam a little!

Hi, I'm an NQT in a Nursery/Reception/Year1 class and was recently criticised during an observation for having a pen and paper in my hand when observing Child Initiated. It was my understanding that observations should be objective and that you should write down exactly what a child says. I would find this very difficult if I did as the observer said and watch for 30 mins before writing anything down. On our busy days we have 20 EYFS children in the class and perhaps it's my lack of experience but if I were to see 20 children doing different things during the first 30mins, how would I remember everything? Also, wouldn't it widen the gap between those outgoing children wh…
