Hi. My head is monitoring writing throughout the school. Looking at boys writing and how the able children are stretched. I wondered if anyone had any super ideas that would impress. We are doing the letters and sounds, Oxford Reading Tree and have a writing area and access to small whiteboards and an large interactive whiteboard for the children to use. Ability wise i am quite pleased with them so far. Thanks

Hi Marion - read your reply under the monitoring writing post re: BIG TALK. Would you be able to give a bit more insoght into how the BIG TALK sessions 'look' in your Nursery/Reception please? Big Writing has been introduced in our school recently but we haven't been included - would like to go back to managment taem & suggest ways FS could begin laying the foundations for Big Writing as opposed to being left out in the cold so to say. Thanks.

Hi, having just completed my first half term in reception I feel I am coping quite well but I am not 100% sure that my assessment is up to scratch. I have been doing individual observations when children are having child initiated play and I observe exactly what they are doing. I also have been trying to use post it's for incidental observations, however I'm not sure I have really got my head round these. I have lots of CLL and MD ones where children have used numbers or letters etc in their play, but I'm not entirely sure what i should be looking out for the rest of the time? Also what about group and whole class observations? I seem to always focus in individua…
