Hi guys, Really sorry. Just thought I'd post this in here as well as I'm getting desperate! Basically one of you lovely people out there posted a link to a school's website where a teacher had made individual videos of the phonemes including the letter pronounciation and jolly phonics actions. Unfortunately I didn't save the website to my favouites when I originally came across it. I'd love to have it to show at a phonics information evening. Sorry to keep going on about it, but all I've done this evening is try to search previous forum topics and on google and I can't find it anyway. I feel like giving up and crying!

Hi all, I currently the Reception teacher in a school with a nursery (different building) and myself and the nursery leader are having problems with both our nursery nurses - they are simply not contributing to the assessment and observation process. This is causing myself and the nursery leader a very heavy workload. Both the nursery nurses have over 10 yrs FS expereince each and have atttended training I organised from our senior FS consultant last term (in a bid to improve things but it just hasn't worked). As of Jan the nursery leader is doing her GTP so will be in my class for 50% of the time (morning sessions) and I will cover her class in the mornings. I am …

Oh please could someone help me Our school is about to start training us on the Assessment for Learning from the QCA it is not a statutory requirement but our headteacher would like to adopt it in school. When we have looked through the document it does not mention anything for foundation stage. We obviously have our own assessment guidance from the new EYFS but the AfL is a whole school approach and we have to do the training. Does anyone know how well this will fit in to the foundation stage? Thanks in anticipation Lisa

Have your children ever made a short New Year's poem for their parents? The idea is for them to memorise it and give it to their parent's on New Year's Day. I would greatly appreciate your help .

I'm a fourth year student doing BA (hons) Art and Education. I always panic! I'm doing a week on bears and using the text 'We're going on a bear hunt.' I need to plan a fantastic C.L.L lesson to be observed, so could really use some ideas for my shared and focused activities that can easily be differentiated. Any help will be greatly appreciated, please thankyou! p.s. I've found a fair amount but any other ideas for other areas of learning will be gratefully accepted- my imagination needs work!

Literacy Planning

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone might be able to help me. The first half of this term I have been exploring phase 1 of Letters & Sounds with my class with regards to literacy, while they have been settling in. I am totally happy using the Letters & Sounds but am totaly confused as to what to do in conjunction with this with regards to literacy planning. My school is trying to use the New Primary Framework and so whereas I felt quite confident with my planning I am now finding I am totally "at sea". Would anyone be willing to give me an example of their long term planning so I can see how to organise myself for the rest of the year before I have a melt down?? I…

Hi all feeling extremely bogged down and very low. I won't go into all the details why... half personal and half professional but need some support. I am trying to sort out lots of issues within our setting too numerous to mention and trying desperately to prioritise but can't see wood for the trees sceanario. Anyway, this is about assessment mainly. I have been reading ofsted reports about where nurseries have got outstanding but alas they dont give you the ins and outs; so I was wondering if there was any nurseries - attached to schools like us or other- that have been given a big thumbs up for their assessments/tracking of children's progress and was wondering i…

New Numeracy Framework

Well, have managed to do most of my planning for new week, but just keep sitting here with the new framework and feel like crying. I have printed off some medium term planning that I think Marion recommended, which does at least break things down into 2/3 week blocks, but I'm finding it really hard to make it meaningful or cohesive. The break down of Block C includes sorting (using and applying and data handling), heavier and lighter etc., language related to time. Two weeks - no number work? Is anyone using the framework and would be willing to post some of their weekly planning before I lose the will to live ? Harricroft

Adult Or Child Initiated!

Please can you explain to me what both of these phrases -Adult Initiated and Child Initiaited, mean? And what is the difference between them. The EYFS states that children should receive a balance between these two and Adult Directed. Balance to me means equal. Is this right?
