Can anyone help please? Would anyone be kind enough to share a planning format for a mixed year 1 and reception class (both short-term and longterm).I need to have an idea of the kind of headings I might need as I have not taught a mixed age group before. I presume that the sheet will need to have a learning objectives column somewhere for both ages groups. Many thanks for reading this. Any ideas are most welcome!!

Hi I have just finished reading the book 'L is for Sheep - getting ready for phonics' (Featherstone Publishing) I have to say that it is a very good read and inspiring. There are lots of fantastic ideas on teaching phonics, reading and writing and i have become inspired. However there is one thing that i am unsure of Story Trails- does any one do them if so how to they go about these. Any help would be much appreciated.

Parental Involvement

Hi there everyone, We have just had our PM interviews and one of my targets is to involve Parents more in the ongoing assessments of their child. I wondered if anyone has any ideas please. We already have a very good relationship with our new parents, but I was thinking of maybe having some form of home/school book which could be used to exchange information about the children. Obviously though I do not want to make this book too arduous a task!!!! My notion was to emphasise to the parents how we value their knowledge about their own child, and for them to let us know if they notice anything that their child has begun to do, i.e. throw and catch a ball, ride a bike …

Floor Space

When deciding how many children are allowed in one unit, is there a legal amount of floor space for each person. Im asking because when we opened our early years unit approx 6 years ago we were told it was for 60 children each session.( dont know who by). When we had two very experienced teachers in the unit the numbers were kept to 60 plus 4 staff. If there were more reception children the oldest went into a mixed small rec/yr 1 class. When another teacher ( who has now left after finding it too hard to cope) took over she said we will keep the 5 extra children and this has now grown. We are now going to have 72 children each session. A This is why we are trying …

Eyfs Planning Problems
by Guest- 4 replies

I just wondered if I could ask you all a question? As a Steiner Waldorf setting we have always used the early learning goals and interpreted them to fit in with our ethos. I now have a problem that I cannot see a way around and I'm wondering if I'm just dumb. You all seem to be very experienced at the different types of planning and have many great ideas. I am having a huge problem now with this kind of planning. In our settings we do plan but our planning is based on the whole year, the seasons, the week, etc. We would not change this as it is the basis of our pedagogy. So for example; we notice that a child cannot hold or use scissors. We would not then creat…

Hi, I'm getting myself really confused and wondered if anyone could help.I am looking a ways to collect evidence in line with the EYFS. I have seen the fantastic proformas someone has put into the resource libary. I thought about using these in each child's file and then ticking off with a date when I have an ob or photograph for tha point. However, in previous years I have used the objectives from the Foundation Stage Curriculum and then used this information to do my assessments straight onto the eprofile. But I am I right in thinking that the eprofile will still have the objectives from the Foundation Stage curriculum on wont it? Am I making myslef clear as to why I am…
