I work in a foundation stage unit with 2 teachers and another NN. For the last 14 years i have taken home scrap books, portfolios and assessment sheets and filled these in on a wekend and in the holidays. as a nursery nurse i usually have around 23 children tht i have to fill these in for, however I just wondered when we are sopposed to fill these in. As a N.N I start work at (officially ) 8.30-4pm =32.5 hours a week with one hour for lunch and no breaks. I already arrive at work about 8 and usually only get about 30 mins for lunch once we have cleaned up and set up for aft children. I am having to adopt a rotation system in my Nursery class (this is a non-uk school that wants each year group to be a year ahead of the UK effectively!! Thats why I am posting here). This means 2 focused tasks done by adults and 3 activities on tables that the children need to complete (and are unsupervised). Can anyone give me any advice to help me make the best of this situation....!!

Assessment Info

Hi I was just wondering what assessment information you receive with your new children from pre schoo. At the moment we receive very little assessment information from our pre-school, they do not do anything towards the Foundation stage profile. Should they be doing so? I am meeting with the pre school manager next week as i really think we need to address this issue. What sorts of things do you receive assessment wise and what do you think works well and maybe not quite so well? Thank you Lola

At the moment on we do a medium term plan which covers all 6 areas. We split it into weeks and include the focus objective for the week for each area. Do you think we need a medium term plan for each area and should we include a continous objectives/ provision and possible activities?

How do you plan for the KUW ELGs: 'Observe, find out about and identify features in the place they live and the natural world' and 'Find out about their environment, and talk about those features they like and dislike'. I never feel I do those very well.

Continuous Provision
by Guest- 12 replies

Hi, How do you organise continuous provision in a reception class? At present we have quite a formal maths and literacy session, every morning. During this time we have a group of children accessing continuous provision. If, for example, it is the maths session should the continuous provision relate solely to maths or should the children be able to access provision from the other areas. I would be grateful for any advice as Ofsted is looming, and we want to provide the best for our children. Thanks

Evidence

what evidence do you have for points such as 'separates from carer' or 'dresses and undresses' I have just looked into my profiles and I haven't got them marked off for children even though they can do it. I really don't want to have to write down things for the sake of it.
