Observation leading to planning

Would anyone be willing to share a reception observation of a child that has led in to their planning. I have to do a presentation on how this works but don't have access to any children to observe. Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Safiyya

Hi, I need a little help. I know lots of people read ABC does blog and I was very lucky to recently go to his conference. He discussed lots about continuous provision, enhanced provision and basic provision. Basically you begin the year with basic provision, then once you have assessed the children you then level and add to the provision according to your assessment and this is continuous provision and then when you add resources which are catered to your children's interests this is enhance provision. At the minute in my setting we have provision which we were calling continuous provision but it isn't related to assessment so have realised that we are WRONG! AAAHHH!! …

Posted Today, 06:00 PM Hi, Am wondering if any one has any ideas. A position has arisen for a EYFS leader without one class responsibility, but will be expected to teach full time across both the reception classes alongside the current reception teachers. There is no on site nursery. Does anyone have any experience of a similar set up and how does this work on a day to day basis in your setting? Any ideas or experiences greatly appreciated

Hi, Just wondering how other's actually go about improving children's grip and control when they have actually chosen to use a pencil/pen e.g. do you correct their grip/model correct grip/allow to develop? Seems to be a lot of advice as to how not to go about it but no clear advice as the right way to do it? Just wondering... Thanks Green Hippo x

Just an idle thought- but how would you go about setting up a research project in an early years setting? I know enough to realise you'd definitely need a ethics section and lots of permissions- but it might be interesting ... Thanks

Ratios - Reception lunch play
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi! At my independent school at lunch break our 24 Reception children have been shunted from the appropriately ratio'd FS garden into the KS1 playground along with Y1 and Y2 due to the ever increasing numbers in Nursery. My head believes statutory FS ratios can be relaxed at 'playtime'. I'm not so sure. I am level 6, the TAs are level 3, the MDS is unqualified. There are 2 of us outside - sometimes 2 x level 3s, sometimes me and a level 3 - joined later by our MDS after she has cleared up. I wondered what other settings did about ratios in a similar playground arrangement? and what do you all think? (I think I might lose my 30 minute lunch break everyday! )

Hi, I am being observed for an R.E lesson with Reception and am hoping to do it based around Mother's day. Does anyone have any ideas for stories based around loving/being thankful for your family/Mum? Thanks in advance

Not quite sure where to post this? We are a maintained Nursery school and we are considering different session times for September 2014 and wondering whether to go for earlier starts/longer days to accommodate working parents so maybe stating at 8.00am or staying open later. I wonder if anyone is considering this too or already doing something more flexible than the normal 9.00am to 3.00pm type times? Any ideas or comments gratefully received.
