Hi there, I wonder If I can quiz your brains on this sunday evening!!! I'm having a real dilemma at the moment. I teach a mixed R/Y1 class, ( 5 Y1s) The classroom is set up as a reception classroom and I have all the areas of learning set up with sand, water, roleplay, paint, workshop etc.I have 2 adults with me in the morning and one in the afternoon. I have an outdoor area which I try to have accessible all the time. At the moment I organise my day with whole class literacy/ numeracy slots for ten mins, I then have whole class/ group phonics activities and group literacy and numeracy tasks. I am finding the childrens different abilities are not being met during whole…

Mental And Oral Sessions
by Guest- 9 replies

I do try and keep my numeracy inputs short but... In previous years I have always included a mental and oral session that revises things we have done previously but obviously this adds to the overall length of time that children are sitting down. Do other people do one or not? If you don't do you worry about children forgetting things that you have done previously? Thanks in advance.

Lea Moderation

Braved the stormy weather to go to a LEA meeting as we are one of the 25 schools to be moderated for the foundation stage. They take so much for granted, we were advised to be available to talk to the moderators, that means supply cover for the morning (there is no money given for this) They will want to see planning, assessments ,e-profile, evidence for three children (top, middle, bottom ability) they will observe these children for 20 mins to check our judgements.Talks to teacher.head and teacher etc.... They also mentioned that next year they will have targets to reach (oh no ) I feel a bit fed up Tinkerbellx

Im trying to put together a pack for parents/chil;dren about their progress. This is to include home/family info, pets, likes/dislikes, photos , observations and work samples. Does anyone know where I could look at a example of this type of thing? We are a new daycare/nursery and would welcome some help.

There have been previous discussions in the autumn about the above. Has anyone been using it and what feedback can they give us? My head of centre has suggested we take a look at it so if anyone is actually using it that would be helpful to know. THanks

Structure Of The Day In Reception

Does anyone have any advice? I am new to the role of FS co-ordinator. I am currently in the process of adapting the way the Reception is organised at my school. i have been trying to encourage the staff to move towards a more child centered approach - fewer focus groups, more child-initiated play and a floater to observe and intervene in play. The staff are finding it hard to move away from their current way of working - children all directed to either a teacher led or teacher directed task. The complaints have been that they feel the children are not making the progress in my new approach that they were making previously. Coming from a school where child-iniated play and…

Help With General Routines In F2
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi, This is now my fourth year working in F2 and the job seems to be getting harder each year. It's not the fact of the intense planning or assessment, they are not the main problem. I have a class of 30. I find that I spend nearly 35 minutes at the end of the day giving out reading folders, book bags, lunch boxes, drinks, pictures, changing the children's shoes etc etc. Also, in the morning the children seem to come into the classroom high as kites and parents stop me at the door so there is actually nobody in the classroom to calm them down straight away. I encourage the children to be independent and put their reading books, drinks and lunch boxes away. Then I …
