Success Criteria

I know it has been discussed before but how are people finding AFL/Use of s.criteria in Reception now? The children seem to latch on to WALT/WILF ok but i sometimes feel they are being overloaded with reminders on how to succeed before they get going on their activity....and then have to stop to evaluate how they have done meanwhile they end up with hardly enough time to get engrossed in the learning itself! Maybe its just me? Any fab ideas anyone?

I read lots of posts, some from here and some from other sites, and see there are lots of people who are struggling to move away from topics to a more child led curriculum. I've been in the position of playleader and know from experience how difficult it can be getting your ideas about this across to collegues who dont want to change for a variety of reasons. I realise that in schools there may be constraints to change that dont apply to private and voluntary settings, namely teachers in higher year groups who want FS children to be doing certain things and heads who need to see everything in written down. Other settings may have young inexperienced staff, staff who, …

A Change From Topic Planning
by Guest- 17 replies

Hi Everyone, I have recently been reading the fantastic article on motivational planning. It has made me feel alive again. This may sound silly but could anyone give me a step by step approach of how they introduce child centred planning as the way of planning for Foundation Two. I would love to scrap topic planning and base everyting around the children's interests but feel a little lost with where and how to start it. Thank you in anticipation of your knowledge and experience. Boogie x

Hi I have recently been appointed temporary literacy co as our coordinator is on maternity leave. I was wondering if any one would be able to offer any advice as to help. I am quite unsure of what my role will involve. At present following an ofsted we are concentrating on the new framework and improving boys writing in Ks1. Also is it national book week soon? Was wondering if anyone had any ideas I could use to promote literacy throughout the school? I appreciate any ideas or help.

Houses & Homes

Hi there everyone, I have decided that my new topic after Christmas for my mixed rec/year1 class will be houses/homes under the title 'building blocks'. Has anybody planned for this topic previously and could give me any tips/ideas please? This is my first year of these year groups. I am going to include things like the stories Goldilocks & 3 bears, going on a bear hunt etc and have viewed previous threads along these lines and am also a little ok with ideas for science and materials and their properties, but generally on the whole anything would be appreciated! Cheers Lisa

Hi all, Trying to work on revamping my weekly timetable for Reception in light of the fact I will be going from 12 children to 30 in two days time!! Anyway, trying to make sure I cover all aspects each week and ensure that they have sufficient PD time. I don't seem to have enough time do do everything (does anyone??) and am just wondering if you have Outdoor Play on the days you have PE as well or do you treat it as their PD time? I know that there is more to outdoors than PD but I have quite limited resources and everything has to be brought out and put away every day (mostly on my own) so am just trying to find a way of not killing myself everyday. I am a bit wo…

Hi We don't really 'do' topics as such, but my children love 'mixing' and I thought I would go with that and try and extend it. Has anyone ever done a lab type rolepay - if you have please could you post some ideas or suggestions, as my mind has gone a bit blank apart from fragrances in water etc. Thanks
