Yr Planning Using Nc Objectives
by Guest- 8 replies

Ok, so I'm due to start a new job on Monday, teaching full time in YR until May. However, the planning has already thrown me and I wondered what everyone thought about my situation. Today I sat down to look through the lap top I've been given that has the programme 'curriculum complete', which I have to use for planning. Basically, the teacher I'm covering told me the FS section of this programme is naff (only has CLL, MD then basically 'other subjects') so she is using the NC format. This means that the planning looks extremely prescriptive, with ALL NC subjects featuring and having their own learning objectives and all subjects featuring on the class timetable. I'v…

Hi Happy new Year to all, just wondering if anyone knows of any publications or materials that would be helpful when planning for more able children in reception. I have 2 very able children and Im quickly running out of ideas of activities to plan for them. I have been on standards site and only found 'challenging pupils in KS1 for maths' I am probably just hopeless at searching on that site as I never find anything. If anyone has any ideas I'd grately appreciate them kat xx

Hi all I need to find a way to score children coming into our FS unit so that I can show progress during their time with us. We take children from age 3 and use the FS profile during their Reception year, so something linked to that seems to me to be the only option. I am not sure , however, about using the profile to score 3 year olds, as it was not designed with them in mind. Does anyone use the profile in the way and if so does it work? thanks Debbie2

Shared Reading
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi, I keep going round in circles deciding how best to timetable and teach CLL within Reception. At the moment we do "traditional" shared reading probably 2 or 3 times a week although the children are also read at least 2 stories per day. The rest of the time is concentrated on writing and phonics (emphasis on Phonics, as they really need it). If we are not doing shared reading we sometimes use Jolly Jingles big book but this is not all the time. Do you think this is enough or do you suggest we do big book/ shared reading work everyday? Thanks for your help x

Self Assessment

Hi Would anyone mind sharing what they do to check reception childrens understanding or/and enjoyment of tasks. Have got children to show me a thumbs up /thumbs down, smiley faces and others not sure tell me again please etc. I need to also think of some strategies to develop the performance of boys. Sometimes I think even if I stood on my head and juggled with my feet - I still wouldn't maintain their attention ( I can't do that by the way!! but I would quickly learn if somebody tells me it works.) Thanks Tia

Moderation - Speaking And Listening
by Guest- 9 replies

Found out this week we are being moderated in Feb on speaking and listening profile points. Maybe it's just me but I feel that this is quite a difficult area to provide evidence for as opposed to writing or creative, etc where children actually produce things to provide evidence. Obviously am doing the usual - post it's, formal observations (1 per child per term) and annotated photos but is there anything I'm missing?
