Hi, does anyone use a story as their planning 'topic' for a half term - e'g. the very hungry caterpillar. I have heard that some people plan this way and then go off at all sorts of tangents from it - it sounds interesting. If you do has anyone any good ideas for me? Thanks

it stands for the Focus Foundation Stage Progress Tracker. Our head has heard of another school trialling it and wants us to trial it with them... sure I said instead of the e-profile? ... hmmm anyhow, I've tried a demo version and it does much the same things really... sure it's a bit jazzier, it formulates targets for you and it takes into account things like single-parent-families and EAL (because we never do that of our own free-thinking do we!? ) Have a looksie here anyhow, if you've used it, or knows anything about then please let me know Cheers ~ Paul

Phonics - How Many Sounds Per Week?
by Guest- 18 replies

Hi Everyone, My first posting so am a little nervous! How many sounds are people teaching in Reception per week? I downloaded Kats phonic plans and was going to use them but I'm worried that my head will expect me to be teaching more than two sounds per week. Last September my class (I didn't start until Jan) did 5 sounds a week (as suggested by Jolly phonics) however only the higher attainers managed to keep up with this and in Jan I had to start the sounds more or less from scratch with the majority of the class. I went to a training with Sue Lloyd earlier this year who said the phonics should begin on a child's first day at school which is what the previous …

Well - what a way to start the weekend - we had 'the call' today at school & the lovely team of visitors will be with us next week!!!! Am a bit concerned & would be grateful for some advice from those who have been inspected around this time of year PLEASE!!! I am currently teaching in the Nursery of a large Primary school - we ahve staggered our intake - meaning that the last group only started on Thursday ( & we still have some of those who started before them crying!!!!!) What will they be looking for when they come into nursery???????? Perhaps i could count the number of tissues i take out of the box as i try to console the chdn who are finding it diffic…

Weekly Planning Format
by Guest- 12 replies

help help help! I have to change my planning format according to the SMT! At the moment I do a weekly Lit plan, a weekly Num plan and a general weekly plan split into the 5 days and the areas of learning. Currently, I just write the activity I am going to do that week for each area. All ELGS and stepping stones are on my medium term plans so I don't re-write these. But apparently its not done in enough detail! I have looked on here for a weekly planning format that has more detail but I can't find 1! It has to be more like the other teachers are doing. I looked at the yr1 teachers planning file for inspiration and went into panic! She has each subject split in…

What Type Of Activities?
by Guest- 4 replies

I teach reception aged children. We are reviewing the activitites we have out in our foundation classroom. I was just wondering what others do. At the moment we have a literacy focus, numeracy focus in the morning and in the afternoon one other area focus and observations going on. We have 2 teachers 1 nursery nure 1 student and 1 CSA. The other activites are balanced between child initiated and directed. Our query at the moment is, should the other activities for example in the morning when we are lit / num focussed be linked to lit and num or should they be a range of of the other areas of learning. We are thinking of having lit / num type activities in a morning an…
