When's The Final Call?
by Guest- 12 replies

Does anyone know when the final Ofsted calls for this year are? We are overdue for our inspection but our head has said if we don't receive a call by tomorrow we won't be inspected until next year now. We break up on the 26th July and are worried that he is tempting fate. He seems to be basing his statement on 'surely they won't inspect anyone in the last week of term!!' Does anyone know if these is correct or are we trempting fate?!?!

Reception To Year 1 Transition

I'd be really grateful for some advice - I'm beginning a new post in September with a year 1 class - it's my first teaching post and my teaching practices have been in nursery at the beginning of the year and Y1 at the end of the year. I'm a bit worried because I've done very little observation at the beginning of Y1 and don't really know if I should be teaching a very formal numeracy/literacy hour and foundation subjects in the afternoon or having a focus activity and free choice type days - I'd be interested to know what other people day and any top tips for the first week? I' m really excited about my post and want to get off to a good start! Any advice would be gr…

Planning A New Topic On Shopping
by Guest- 10 replies

Hi Hope everyone is well and not too overwhelmed at this point in the term..... Am thinking about planning for next year (why???!). We have in the past done a short topic on houses and homes to cover the 'sense of place' strand of the curriculum with our Reception classes. However, we now can't do this as it treads on Y1's toes and the children (shocking, I know), know some things about houses and homes when they get to Y1, and obviously we can't have that! So, anyway, thought we could so a topic on shopping instead as we are a town centre-ish school. Does anyone have any good suggestions for planning I could look at and /or big books or something else tha…

Where do people who work in pre-schools get their daily attendance registers from? we have been using the PLA one but next term we will have too many children to fit on the rather small name page. As instructed by Ofsted, we have to use one that has a. 'in and out' column. Thankyou! Rosalind

Autumn Assessments

Hi Everyone, Just wondering what sort of assessments/activities people carry out at the begining of Autumn Term to establish children's starting points/ baseline. How do you 'carry' them out? one-to one? tick lists of recognition etc.? Group observations? Is there any particular method or performa that comes recommended? Have read link on PIPs, but have not seen what they consist of (and by your responses not advised?) Is there a web site I can check out? Heard it was Durham? All responses gratefully recieved! (don't know what I'd do without you guys there! ) Skylight

Stepping Stones Assessments.
by Guest- 3 replies

I'm sure someone can point me in the right direction. We used to do assessments on our children that our LEA put together called All about me's that covered all the stepping stones. we would pass them on to schools. The LEA is now going to charge us all 50p to buy them so I thought we'd do something of our own. has anyone got a basis to start with that we can adapt, something that covers all OFSTED needs, and that does not take hours to fill in. We have spoken to our feeder schools and they don't actually look at them unless there is a problem with the child, then they look and see what we have said about them. I have to say that rather makes me see red, cos if they look…
