I teach in Reception one day a week and normally I do a read write inc lesson based on what they've been doing, recapping etc. I've found out today they've changed this around this week so i'll need to do something different, which is fine but I'm being observed so I'm feeling a bit out of my comfort zone, The teacher has asked me to do something based on the book of Oliver's vegetables. I'm thinking the tops can work with me and we'll do group writing to make a big book of the story. Not sure about the other 3 groups which range from not hearing initial sounds to cvc'ing, I have a TA... sequencing pictures of the story is one idea but if anyone has any other amazing idea…

Has any one any good ideas for linking the teaching the concept of addition to Jack and the Beanstalk for an obseravtion. We use Numicon materials and the Numeracy coordinator is looking to see Numicon materials being used in the observation. I thought that I could perhaps use magic beans or golden coins alongside Numicon and show how to record the addition number sentence. This will be with more able children who are currently on 40-60 months but working towards ELGs. I have also been trying to think of a creative way to link it to the story so that the children have a 'reason' to be adding and my mind has gone blank. Any ideas from you creative people would be much appr…

Hi everyone, :1b I just wanted to find out what different settings do in terms of the amount of evident collected for each child in Reception? So for example learning journeys, online learning journals, and any other work the children do. I currently feel that I have to collect too much evidence but I could be wrong. Thanks

Hi, Just joined today although have been having a peek at some posts for a couple of months. Having been out of teaching for 9 years, I started a new job at a private nursery in November ( have never taught in nursery before and it's very scary). Anyway I'm looking for some ideas on how to record observations and responsive planning either on a daily/weekly basis. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks P.s I am in Scotland but can adapt ideas for EYFS to suit our curriculum CfE.

Have just spent a very enjoyable afternoon making some story stones, and just wondered if anyone else has used them? Am hoping to help inspire reluctant writers with them :-)

Hi everyone. I'm struggling with my cohort of only 23 (half came in below age related expectations in most areas, a third speak EAL, 2 have global delay and one has no speech in her home language and a few mispronounced words in English, and one very difficult behaviour challenge. ALL children are making expected or better progress in all areas) in general but one of the areas I need support with is improving their communication with each other during play. Currently my day is: Assembly Linked provision (table top activities, generally maths based) Input Focus teaching (children working in environment in and out with Teacher extension of play and learning, LSA delive…

Hi Our Key Stage 1 children get to choose the title of their new topic, following the good practise of following children's interests from FS. I have lots of Science kind of ideas that we could do (basically lots of science experiments) but does anyone have any more ideas.... Any ideas welcomed!

Observation advice please

Hi I could really do with some advice about an observation I've got coming up please. I am beginning a new topic of the tiger who came to tea and the day I begin is the day I have an observation by an early years advisor which is also the day which I have a supply TA. I was hoping to begin the topic with a wow starter - video of myself dressed as a tiger either saying I want to come for tea but not sure if I can because I was told I now need an invitation to go to people's houses (leading to invitation writing) or that the tiger likes certain foods so they need to write a shopping list so that they have the right food. Or another stimulus? Or could this stimulus link…
