Okay... so let me put this in context. I've been temporarily FS leader at my cuurent school (2form entry with 52 place nursery) for this past year to cover materity. The original leader has come back and as much as I can work with her... I'm finding it a bit difficult now as it's like a step down. A head rang me the other day out of the blue and said he'd heard 'good' things about me and has the FS leader position coming up a his school teaching in a R/Yr1 class and would like me to apply for it. I'm undecided as I know my school really well, and may have the chance to move to year one this year which would be a nice change, especally as I'm on a Rec/KS1 t…

Question For Your Reception Teachers
by Guest- 8 replies

HI I guess this is a question aimed at the reception teachers here. I work in a pre-school room of a private day nursery, this september we have five pre-school children leaving us to go to full time school, some are going to private schools, others are going to state schools (not that that probably makes any difference whatsoever!) All of the 5 children that leave us have not received any other pre-school education aside from what they receive with us (so basically they haven't attended a pre-school attatched to their new schools) I was wondering what feedback/information we should be sending home with the parents (as teh child leaves) to pass onto the children…

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have an interview on Wednesday morning with a group of 12 mixed ability Reception children for 30 minutes. I have to deliver a mathematics problem solving activity using a story of my choice. I'm not sure what story to do but I was thinking of the Very Hungry Caterpillar or Goldilocks and the three bears but im having a real blank thinking of activities to go with it! I'm currently in my last week of teaching practice so trying to plan for that AND I have three other interviews this week! The pressure is on - please help!

Please has anyone some good advice ...... I am a nursery teacher, setting up a FS Unit with staff in September (feel positive and excited about that! ) and also have been assigned Year 1 to my team - which i love! Now have the opportunity to continue all that great EYs stuff into kS1 and look into further developing the transition ......... however am worried ...... The YR1 teacher will be carrying out the literacy and numeracy sessions during most mornings and for this she has a TA to support her - in the afternoon she will be on her own with 29 children and is worried about being able to teach everything she needs to teach in a term, and collect evidence a…

Assessment Of Children

We're in a largely monocultural/lingual area, but it's beginning to change. I've just had a question raised that I've not been asked before, & it's made me think. Can I ask for wisdom from those of you with more experience in these areas? The child is 4 & will be going into school in September. He will get support from EMAS there as they have strong links to the school. He was in kindergarten in an East European country as late as January this year, joining us in late February, although he was actually born here. We have been assured that his first language is strong and being supported, and that's certainly how it seems to us. We've eventually managed to…
