I have just bought the featherstone publication Managing the curriculum in mixed age classes foundationstage and year1 it looks ok apart from the topics are not what I would be doing I am doing Transport. The book comes with a disc so no doubt i will be able to fiddle with stuff.. has anyone adapted their planning ? Out topic next term is toys and we have some good big books to use for the start or our CLL sessions (we have a focussed adult directed time every morning for CLL) Our ELG's this term are writing their own name and use and hold a pencil effectively but i need activities 1 per day for the next 6 weeks and I'm struggling. This is the first time I have tried to plan for a whole half term and its more difficult than I thought it would be!! (am still training on a GTP program). Any help would be very gratefully received. jo

Hi everyone, Our topic next term is People Who help Us. We have got lots of non-fiction books and intend to arrange visits from various people but I am stuck when it comes to thinking about which texts to use for Literacy. The Jolly Postman springs to mind but I'm struggling to think of any others. Can anyone help? Thanks Rosie

is there a good book with recipes that my class could manage with minimal help. All they do at the moment is decorating biscuits! I'd like to do something bit more adventureous and keep within the healthly school ethos. Anyone done anything really successful? and if its anyway related to the theme of toys thats even better!! thanks jo

I have been invited for an interview for a nursery teacher vacancy, and I have to teach a 10 minute phonic lesson to reception aged children. The school are hoping to create a foundation stage unit for September, so the job is for both age groups. I would be very grateful for any ideas, as I have been working with nursery children for the last 3 years and am unsure at what level reception chidlren are at. Looking at the foundation stage curriculum, the early learning goal talks about naming letters where as isn't synthetic phonics now saying that the children shouldn't be taught the letter names along side the sounds they make? Any advice/suggestions gratefully reciev…

Hello everyone I am new to this fantastic site and have been cathing up on all past threads and info. I found this site whilst researching into weekly planning formats. I work in a private day nursery and we have updated our long and medium term plans and our observing and ssessing of the children. As well as our observations we have introduced a book called Moving Children Forward for staff to write down any interests or learning needs of specific children. From observations and this book we want to produce weekly plans. our nursery is divided into three areas called Messy Quiet and Active Areas and we need to produce weekly plans to cover these area…
