I am being observed in a literacy lesson. The idea I have is to use a puppet. My class are reception. We are doing final sounds in cvc words. I will introduce the lesson by saying the puppet is having problems in saying final letter sounds in cvc words. I will say the word e.g cat and the puppet will try to say the word but not say the final word. The children will then offer suggestions on the final letter sounds. I will then write the cvc word on the board asking children to spell it. One of the independent activities will be children printing a cvc word with paints and letter stamps then painting a picture of that word. Has anyone got any suggestions what other indpen…

Hi all, I am currently reviewing long, meduim and short term plans for nursery and reception. I am rather confused as to the amount each should contain. Should long term show aspects will be covered in each topic? medium plans show what will be covered each week or just have ideas for the areas of learning ? where should key questions be? As you can see I am lost!!! it would be great to see some examples. Can any one help?

Child Initiated Play
by Guest- 8 replies

Trying to plan my new timetable and seem to be getting no where fast. My children will be starting full time after half term and so I need a change of plan. Anyway, I would like to know how long your children spend on child initiated play each day and do you spend these times observing the children, or are you carrying out group activities at the same time? I am terrible because I feel so guilty if i am not working with a group of children, especially when the head teacher comes in. Perhaps it's just me!

Sharing really does pay off. This summer while I was on holiday my precious laptop was stolen when my house was broken into. All my Continuous Provision was on it and although I had them printed off I didn't back the files up. Well I found them here again and even better someone has added pictures to them. As I am going into nursery the addition of pictures seems really appropriate. I cried with relief. I must add that when I did these I adapted them from Warrington LEA so they need to taks some credit. Once again what a wonderful resource this site is and it sharing saves such a lot of time. Thanks

Snack Time

is anyone else having problems with snack? At the moment we have a continuous snack but it is driving me mad, i spend more time chasing up those who havent had it than if we had all sat down together. I feel we are losing valuable social time and as a health promoting school we should be encouraging the children to eat their fruit. What does everyone else do?

Indoor/outdoor ?

I have a great Reception classroom with an outdoor area. I wanted to ask if you allow your pupils to wander freely in and out or do you direct certain groups to indoor and outdoor activities? Does anyone have any practical and simple systems for checking which activities the children have chosen, eg sticking their names by photos of activities? My problem is that the indoor classroom is being abandoned by the kids in favour of outside activities, so some days the creative area, writing corner and computerts are hardly touched. Can anyone help please?
