Toilet Training

Hi, I just wondered if anybody could help me! I have a boy in my setting who is five years and is not toilet trained. I have tried really hard to get him to go to the toilet. Anyway we have decided as a school we are not prepared to keep cleaning him (this happens nearly everyday). So mum and dad are called to clean him up and they are not happy. As a school are we allowed to refuse to clean the child? and do you have any suggestions, we have tried rewards, reminders, his seen the school nurse and nothing is working. Thank You for any words of wisdom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goldenwink

I am currently reviewing our weekly planning format for nursery and wondered if anybody would share ones that they use. Last year I taught reception and I feel that Nursery is slightly different. Does any one have a weekly planning format that works? Thanks for your help!!

Hello, How do you all plan and organise your days and weeks in reception? Currently, I do literacy and numeracy in the mornings. I do a whole-class session, then both myself and the NN do a focused activity each while the other children have a teacher initiated activity and some continuous provision activities to choose from (I use a task-board with pictures). We swap the groups over half-way through so that all the children have a focused activity. The teacher-initiated activities are usually literacy based in the literacy session and numeracy based in the numeracy session although I often have play-dough or something creative out that links to the whole-class learning.…

Hi, Thanks to all who have replied to my previous posts. This one should not involve any questions! I had a meeting this afternoon with the Deputy Head who is also the assessment coordinatior. She was interested in how I assessed the children and keep records as she had no evidence in her file! I have worked almost solidly all weekend on planning and assessment - trying to find manageable ways of doing these - especially assessment. I continually worry (as I know many of us do) about planning and assessment - is this how everyone else does it? is it enough? will OFSTED think it is ok? etc (sorry - questions!). I have changed my planning nearly every week to try to find…

hI everyone Today we had a pretend OFSTED, we have done this for the last four years, the headteacher gets an OFsted inspector in for a day every year. The inspector has a focus and pops in and out of classrooms etc.People had asked for feedback on the forum from people who had had an Ofsted if you are interested .....this is what he fed back He and the headteacher observed the yr3/4 teacher during literacy lesson ,the inspector was looking at the headteachers observation to see if they were both in agreement, that would confirm the headteachers comment onthe sef that the teaching was excellent. They will talk alot to the children ,school council eg They will ask ch…

i'm sitting here trying to complete a supporting statement for a rec teaching job, and my mind is failing me at the last hurdle!!! Am trying to write a sentence about parental involvement and everything i write seems to be far to wordy - any suggestions for improvement would be welcomed: "I encourage parents and carers to develop close links with school by inviting them to take part in school activities, for example cooking or outings, and by being regularly available to discuss any queries or questions they may have." what would we do without this site....!!! thanks everyone

Hi! This is my first post - I have spent most of the last week looking through all the posts in the forum. It's nice to know we're not alone! This year I have changed the planning to formally include continuous provision (we had it before but there was no planning just a list of the areas). I'm still trying to work out how to organise and plan it effectively- I wonder if anyone can help. Do you leave the same resources in an area all day? Is a yearly long-term plan that covers the learning that might happen in the area ok or should it be changed every half-term? As we do CCL and MD in the mornings, my afternoons cover one/two focused activities from 1 area of learni…
