Formative/formal/summative/testing

Hi I need to do the above and to show types of different assessment and how they support the development of children. Will try to link it to theory and stages of development. I know formal is like SATs, and that summative may be end of year tests, but I'd be grateful for other ideas. regards

Going Round In Circles!

I've had this chat before!! I just need to air it again before I go completely insane. Right, have a new head that started at Easter - he's fantastic. On the ball the lot. He's moving the school forward and he's only been around half a term. Problem - the FS co thinks that we are immune to any changes related to raising standards. She thinks if we ignore it, if we plan to have people coming in to talk to Early Years staff at the same time as the rest of the school are having ISP consultants coming in to talk about targets and planning formats, then we don't have to do them. If we pretend to our school improvement officer that we are doing things, if we tell the…

Hi All, I need to do lots of observations on one child for my FD. I am particularly looking at Cognitive, Language and possibly social development. Can anyone give me any tips or ideas to any good planning formats eg. time sampling? Would like to do tracking plan but can't see how this would be done on a year 1 child. Hope this makes sense thanks

We Have Ofsted In At The Moment...
by Guest- 27 replies

Just a quickie really... the inspector on the OFSTED team assigned to the FS seems to be infatuated with how mnay children are working ABOVE the ELGs and how I know. I told her I know because I use the e-profile as an ongoing tool... so it's always up-to-date, and I could show her there and then. Points 8 and 9 on the profile are deemed to be working above the ELGs apparently. But what I was wondering was, on average, how many children do you have achieving all points, PLUS 8 and 9 in reading and writing? Thanks ~Paul

Help With A Previous Query
by Guest- 4 replies

This post is a copy of something I've already entered on paulparkie's 'We have Ofsted in at the moment...'. Because I joined in the discussion so late (story of my life!) I think maybe my post hasn't been read and I would really like help. I know, from past experience, how helpful you all are. My query is regarding the discussion about the typical level of achievement on the FSP: perhaps it's just me being dense but, like Susan, I was under the impression that points 4 - 8 for each area weren't dependent upon each other i.e. that each 'stood alone' (it seems to indicate this in the front of 'Curriculum guidance...). If this is true, what are the implications for Catm…
