Hi there, Our school is being moderated by the LEA assessment advisor on Wednesday and i don't really know what to expect - as they are doing nationally this year (i believe) he will be looking at CLL and Creative development. I think i am ok with the CLL part - have lots of the childrens work, reading records, Basic skills assessments and photos etc to show (although any other ideas would be a help - just so that i don't stress too much over the weekend) but how sould i present it to him - just show a good, bad and ugly?!?!?!?!?!? (High, middle, low achievers) or what???? As you can tell i am having a little panic this afternoon - i know things will be OK - thin…

Success Criteria 1 2

What we need to do is think of some basic learning intentions that we will all find useful - perhaps we should start there? Should I start a new topic? Some of my maths L.I.'s are very specific to the scheme I am following, so I hope they are useful to you too. Learning Intentions I have though of initially: L.I.:To copy any number between 1-5 correctly. S.C.: Listen carefully to the number Find the number on the number line Look at the number carefully Copy the number Check the number you have written looks the same (thought I might as well include this one as I used it last term for numbers to 20 and with constant practise like this, most of the childr…

Team Teaching In Reception
by Guest- 6 replies

I am currently in an interesting and exciting position...in July our school is closing and amalgalating with another in a brand new building. The school will be two form entry and the Reception classes will be opposite each other with a large, enclosed shared area between teh two. I feel that this situation would lend itself well to tam teaching, however I have spoken to a number fo people who teach in this way but plan and structure their day very differently. some introduce separately, then allow free flow between the rooms but call children from their own class group to take part in small group activities. others take turns to introduce or introduce together an…

Summer Camp?

Hello everyone, this is my first post! I have just joined and have found it fascinating reading all your excellent ideas, I work in a centre in Ireland and work with the 3-5 age group. For the months of July and August we run Summer Camp, this will be our second year running it. Last year we found it difficult with the themes? Does anyone here run a summer camp and be kind enough to share ideas with me. Many thanks in advance!

Planning For The Outside Environment
by Guest- 1 reply

Hi everyone, just wanted to see how others planned for the outside environment. Up until recently we have always had an allocated time for outside play, this was mainly due to the fact that we are in an upstairs flat and only have access to the outside via the fire escape stairs or the stairs leading to the front door. As you can imagine this could prove difficult allowing the children free access to the outside. We also share the area with the public and have swings, slide, climbing frame etc situated within the space. We have just had new fences erected and the area is now for us to develop, hence having a summer house for role play, a sand hill and digging areas, in fa…

Non Fiction As A Stimulus
by Guest- 7 replies

Hi there, Following on from planning from stories - Has anyone got some good ideas for using non-fiction books as a stimulus ? we find the 'reccounts' suggested for Reception hard to come by and rely on making our own. We have a few other standby's but theyare often too simplified and lack the features that we want the children to recognise in non fiction books? Would love to hear of ideas and books that have worked for other members?

Mathematical Development Elg ?
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi, Just wondered if anyone could help with this one.... 'Finds one more or one less than a number from 1 to 10' ELG is puzzling me slightly! I am not sure what the children need to do exactly to achieve this goal - should they be able to answer ?'s from the top of their heads e.g; can you tell me what one more than 6 is/1 less than 7 is? Or.... would it be ok to use a numberline for them to locate 1 more/1 less? I use these 1 more/less ?'s in practical play etc, but there is a large proportion of the class who find it difficult to recall these facts without using pysical objects - particuarly 1 less. Please advise. Thanks, Emma

I've been doing this job for years but I've just started to question why we do assessment sheets. We observe the children all the time, jotting down everything at focused activities and while they are at their play, keeping evidence folders. But we then transfer these obs to an assessment sheet which is based exactly on the FS document. We use a highlighter to show when the child has achieved something. But what then? Why do these sheets if the reception doesnt want them and the parents dont understand them (we do a short written breakdown detailing their achievments for the parents). I'm trying to tell a member of staff what we use them for, but cant think of anything, …
