I have been asked to devise an assessment tool to assess where the children are when they come into reception. I know that we had baseline assessment and we were all pleased when we no longer had to spend the first seven weeks of the childs school life testing them, so I don't want to make anything like that. However my head wants data that can be used to show value added.... we have had problems from the baseline assessment and children not achieving their predicted SAT results.... so she want something that really looks at their understanding and not only can they do this activity. I am aware that we have the FSP but this is used throughout the year and…

We are expecting OFSTED and we are fortunate enought to have a healthy approach to pratical and useful planning. ie not bits of papers for bits of papers sake. However it has been highlighted that our LTP is a bit gappy throughout the school. I am an NQT and in reception so do all the foundation stage planning myself. Does anyone use a really workable LTP document. I am not looking for pages- but something different and more informal, but as useable. I think we are seaching for the impossible- but if anyone has some different approaches it would be good to hear. Thanks

We have just had a OFSTED consultant in school and she has told me that I need to ensure that the children can tell me what they are learning in every area in my room/ outside etc.. I need to make clear to them what their learning objective is and record each week, each child and what they have learnt/done in each area and use thisto plan for the following week. Some areas are easy if there is a particular directed activity, but what about the malleable area or my workshop where they can do their own thing a lot of the time. She said the same for the nursery and wasn't happy that our 3 year olds told her they were making clay animals and putting bits on- they should ha…

Computerised Assessment
by Guest- 7 replies

Is there anybody out there who could possibly offer me advice on computerised assessment? Our school currently uses the Essex Target tracker. It was effective, generated helpful graphs, which were very impressive for parents and on reports and generated reports with targets achieved and next targets. Reports did need heavy editing but still saved a huge amount of time and the inspector loved them. The Nursery use it for Stepping stones and we use it for Foundation stage profile as well. At the end of the year I was able to produce suitable documentation for the LEA without any form filling etc. which saved hours. Target tracker costs money though, there is an annua…

by Guest- 9 replies

Hello everybody and happy new year! My reception class were taken for a weekly music session with another teacher before christmas. This coincided with my release time and therefore I saw very little of the sessions. The school I work at does not follow a specific music syllabus/scheme and now Im rather stuck. I wondered if any of you might have any plans you could share. I'd like to try and continue the weekly session, but am not sure what to follow/how to progress/ideas etc. Additionally I have the same problem for PE. The children have fee-flo sessions twice a day and much of their physical development is supposed to be encompassed within this. However, I have…

I have been asked to produce a list of activities which can be carried out in the sand/ water trays as a starting point for the key stage 1 teachers in our school. They are moving into a more creative/ play based curriculum but are struggling with how to fit it in with numeracy, literacy and other subject lessons. I have begun a list but was wondering if anyone was inspired. Thanks for your help.
