Money - Observation

Hi, I am an NQT and have an observation coming up next week. I am planning to do a maths input followed by a focus activity introducing money. I am aiming to introduce the language and 1p, counting in 1ps to find the cost of an item. I have thought about using 'The Great Pet Sale' to start the lesson reading it to the children. Then having some of the pictures of the animals with their price tags on the IWB. The children have to count out the right amount of coins to be able to pay for each animal. I was then thinking of just extending this for the focus activity, asking the children to read the price tags, and then count out the amount of 1p coins to be able to …

Hi I need some inspiration! We have been advised by a literacy advisor to have a literacy working wall up in every classroom from Nursery up and that this wall should include building up a sentence appropriate to the age of children. I want my wall to be relevant and useful for the children not just a wall of words. Any ideas? I'm in Nursery. Thanks Green Hippo x

Hello, I am just wondering if anyone has whizzy ideas for afternoon registration in year R. In the morning children self-register and go to independent phonics activities before we come together for phonics teaching. I feel that in the afternoon it is a waste of their time (and mine) for them all to sit down and wait for their name to be called - this can take up to 15 mins if waiting for coats, hats, scarves, toilet breaks etc so those ready first are waiting alongtime on the carpet. What does everyone else do to make this time a bit more child friendly? Thank you

Hi all, I am currently training to teach and have a maths observation next week. I need some help with thinking of something fun to do for the plenary. My mental starter is singing hickory dickory dock using dice to roll out a number when we get to, the clock struck..... My main activity will involve using ladybird bingo mats (focus being on counting and number recognition). That way i can differentiate easily between all groups, ranging from Higher Ability- Lower Ability. Im trying to think of something fun to do for the plenary. Does anyone have any good ideas or other examples of maths activities I could use? Thank you

Hi everyone, I wonder if you could help? I'm hoping to do some guided reading next week with a focus on reading for a purpose. Our topic is birthdays. I am hoping to construct some form of instructions for the children to read step by step to make something - possibly cakes for our party on the Friday but I was wondering whether you could think of anything craft based for the instructions? Thanks in advance

Hi! Sorry the title is so vague.... Basically I have a question to ask... I have 4 boys in my class who only ever choose to play in the construction corner which we often leave as an imagination lead area, rather than setting specific tasks and objectives. We try to engage them in other areas, try to tailor the activities around their interests etc. but unless the activities are adult lead they rush the activities in the other areas if we direct them there to get back to the construction. Due to this my head has said that my area is inadequate as they are not engaged in their learning. The head comes in and asks them what they are learning from building... and they sa…
