FSP scores and NC levels

Hi everyone I am in need of some serious help!!! My headteacher has asked me to convert the FSP scores into p-levels/national curriculum levels for the Year 1 teachers (and also so she can make predictions for the end of key stage 1). As much as I have explained this is not appropriate and goes against all the early years guidance and ethos, she is having none of it!! I understand she is under pressure from Ofsted and the local authority to do this!!! I have been trying to work out a system/correlation but unsurprisingly it is really difficult!!! I just wondered if anyone else out there has been forced into doing this and whether they have any advice or examples!…

Anyone know this song? Saw a little clip on a teaching video on YouTube. Designed to help children draw and recognise shapes. "Slide back walk away and up to the top. Three corners is what I've got. Three straight corners... A triangle is what I've got!" I'd love to know the other verses.. Anyone heard of it Or know a similar song that teaches the same thing?

Teacher directed group activities?

I've been reading Alistair Bryce -Clegg books about taking focused learning into continuous provision in reception class. However I'm now questioning how I plan my day. Previously I've gathered the children for a short imput and then kept a group to work with me on an adult led task. The other children have continuous provision and an adult is available to interact with these children. This week I've tried taking the planned numeracy objectives into the areas but hand on heart I've not really be able to teach what I needed to! So it's back to the drawing board and I would really appreciate if anyone would share how they organise their group activities. Thanks

Do we need topics? 1 2

I recently attended a meeting with our HT who told us that we should go with the childrens ideas because the most important thing was that the children met their targets in reading and writing and maths and this could be done by observing them and scaffolding them in their own preferences. Apparently they do not heed to be taught anything else except how to hold a pencil and use it effectively and how to count and recognise numerals. Are we dumbing down the curriculum at the age of 4 years old now because it really stuck in my throat? We now use child initiated ideas for our themes and just finished learning about superheroes to get the boys writing targets up, but if…

Copying teachers script.
by Guest- 7 replies

Our school have assumed weeks in which all children will write about the same topic across the school, for data and tracking purposes. Reception and nursery are expected to contribute too. As team leader I asked them to clarify exactly what they wanted to see from the early years. My 2 assistant heads have said that nursery can do mark making (phew!) but in reception the low ability should mark make, the top attempt their own writing (I can stomach this so far..) but the middle ability should be copying my script. I was told to write in yellow pen so they can go over it. Maybe I'm wrong but isn't this discouraged these days? I'm not suggesting it doesn't have a place for …

Hello, I'm looking at "Beginning to use everyday language related to money." DM 40-60 months in Shape, space and measures next week. What do you think this covers? I'm struggling to word a learning intention and am getting a little worried that I'm slipping into the kind of expectations I'd have for my Y1 children (who I don't have this year!). I've looked through the exemplification material for SSM and through the positive relationships and enabling environments bits of Development Matters but don't feel any wiser. I know that most of my children are pretty good on naming coins although they could all benefit from reinforcement and gaining security in it. …
