Hi everyone I am doing Handa's surprise next week in reception..and I am planning a maths session for patterns. We did pattern a couple of weeks ago and we threaded coloured straws onto string and made necklaces, used numicon, and cubes. This week I was thinking to make fruit printing patterns, match patterned socks on a washing line. But I wanted some more ideas about what I could do? Just wondering if anyone can help...thank you in advance. Sunai

Hey, Does anyone know where to get the music/ backing track for the following nativity song - There Isn’t Any Room Rat-a-tat-tat, Rat-a-tat-tat, No! No! No! There isn’t any room And you can’t stay here, There isn’t any room for strangers. The wind may be chill And the night may be cold, And be full of nasty noises-in-the-dark And dangers. But there isn’t any room, There isn’t any room, There isn’t any room for strangers. Rat-a-tat-tat, Rat-a-tat-tat, Yes! Yes! Yes! There is a little room And you may stay here, We have a little place for strangers. Come in from the night To a stable so bare Which is full of warmth and friendliness-and-safe from dangers. Yes, there…

We are currently looking at how we teach it in Y1? We currently do whole carpet session and then group work. Does anyone have any inspiring ways of doing it?

Hi All, How does everyone set their children off into child initiated? Is there any fantastic ideas out there instead of sitting in a circle and asking the children how they will challenge themselves? Would love to hear how everybody does this? Bearing in mind I have thirty children in a small classroom? Many thanks

Letters and Sounds

I'm a long term supply teacher and work for a day a week in a Reception class. In the 3rd week of the new term we started on Phase 2 of Letters and Sounds, one sound each day and have continued this over the following weeks. Is this typical practice? The children are split into ability groups but all work at Phase 2, some at a slightly slower rate. However, I feel that some of the children would benefit from Phase 1 activities. What do other teachers do? Thanks in advance.

Plan do review?

Hi All, I am being asked to do plan, do , review with my Reception class, with them recording what they intend to play with on a photocopied sheet, then reflecting at end of session on whether they achieved their plan. I feel this is a throw back to 2000, pre- EYFS. I think free flow means exactly that, allowing the children to move between activities, inside and out, choosing to focus on an area or activity which really grabs them. I don't think they should be sticking their name card up next to a picture of the marble run. I also think this leads to children getting stuck in a rut, whereas allowing them to discover all the exciting opportunities in a high quality c…

Whale is expected progress for FS2 children. So if they come in at just within 22-36 months obviously it's unlikely they will reach the early learning goal but what would expected progress be.

Behaviour advice please

Please can someone tell me how to handle this as I think I am getting cross and therefore not being as effective as I could be. Let's call the child A. If I describe a scenario, please could you tell me what you would do! We are all in the hall for PE. We are doing some songs. Child A starts doing silly dancing, calling out silly words and generally doing the wrong thing. Others reacting, laughing. I remind him of the rules, he continues. I send him out to a neighbouring class. How do I stop this kind of behaviour? Or handle better? I've not been teaching long and have never had a child quite like him ( not excusing his behaviour but he has a lot of emotional…
