GLD and funding

We worked really hard to bring out children up to a GLD from a low starting point last year, and were really pleased that, after gradually improving for years, we finally hit the National Average. All well and good. Then the budget for the next school year arrived, and we have been penalised (quite harshly - to the tune of several thousand pounds) because children's attainment on entry has gone up. On being queried this is not entry to the school, but entry to KS1. Of course we will continue to do the very best we can for our children, but this kind of financial penalty has implications for people's jobs. Feeling a bit kicked in the teeth just now. Does this happen …

Objective lead planning

Hi, we started using objective lead planning, after discovering ABC Does, recently. We have had a visit from a County advisor today that felt the planning was just an opportunity for observation. After much defence of our new day structure I eventually sat back as a new daily timetable was drawn up for me and my colleagues, allowing very little time for us to be in amongst CP as we are busy dragging groups off to do focus activities. I am right in feeling completely dejected and fed up?! Is anyone using Objective led planning and finding it successful? For the few days we had it up and running we found it really liberating and felt like we had spent much more valuabl…

Hi all, I have been involved in learning journey monitoring today and a few things have been raised as points for discussion. SLT questioned the amount of independent writing evidenced in the books and questioned some judgements being made when writing wasn't purely independent e.g from their child initiated sessions with no adult input. How much independent writing do your children have as evidence in their books and do you only evidence independent writing? Hope that makes sense. Thanks

Toast Time!
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi, I'm getting observed on Friday morning which is when we make toast each week. There is one TA at the table who supervises and handles the toaster. The children use tongs to take their toast out once it has popped and are encouraged to spread their own butter and jam on their slice of toast. They are then encouraged to cut the toast themselves before taking it to another table to eat. I'm just wondering if there's anything else I could add to enhance this activity. I have printed out cards with pictures of the stages of making toast so the children can order these while they're waiting or after they've had their toast. The TA obviously talks to the children about s…

Resources Budget

I have been given a budget of nearly £5k to buy resources and improve our learning environment. I would appreciate any suggestions of where to start. What couldn't you live without? Indoor space is an issue. I'm after multi purpose resources due to our space limitations. Many thanks

We have decided to find characters to represent the characteristics of effective learning and like the idea of super heroes. I heard a discussion about some called "Have a go Henry" and "Try hard Theresa" at a training day recently, but can't find these on the Internet? I have also heard about some dinosaur characters too, but again can't find these. Can anyone help? Or does anyone have any other ideas they are willing to share? Many thanks ?

Hi all After nearly completing a full term as EYFS lead I was feeling quite confident that we were doing the 'right' things in Reception regarding planning whole class, adult supported and CI sessions. We've trialed objective led learning as written about by Alistar Bryce Clegg and I think it's working well. However my deputy hasother ideas and has asked where our adult group activity planning is and how many adult led activities we're doing each week. I just wanted to know, as per usual there's no set way, what everyone else does with planning, how many focus tasks you do, do you support children in their play too and how to fit one to one reading in with all…
