Non negotiable writing 1 2
by Guest- 37 replies

Hi, this is my first ever post although I've been a member for a while. This is probably a silly question but could anyone explain non negotiable writing to me? My foundation stage leader has told me that I am going to have to make every child sit down and 'write' about a given topic at a certain time every week. Starting next week! I feel that this goes against everything I believe should be happening in reception but I could be wrong? I encourage the children to mark make and if they are able I provide different activities in different areas that encourage writing such as word hunts, labels etc. please help any advice would be gratefully received!

We are a 3 form entry primary with a 52 part time place nursery class . . .the SLT in our school have decided they would like to lok closely at EYFS and have very kindly booked an outside consultant to come in and underatke an Early Years Review!!! (in 2 weeks time) The thought of any type of observatin or inspection always reduces me to a muddlng mess!! and I always think everything we are doing is wrong!!! So I'm looking for some words of wisdom and reassurance if possible. Is anybody willing to share their current daily routines for NUrs / Rec? Does anybody do specific planning for Child Initiated time - or do you use your continuous provision planning fr t…

HI All, Has anybody got some good songs for tidying up or activities other than mission impossible and copying activities. Looking for some fun exciting ways to get the children on the carpet and learning something whilst getting there?

Daily maths?

Does everyone do a daily maths session? As in, a whole class input 10-15 mins? I do a daily phonics and I always have another focus input that may be literacy, uw, ead etc and this year I'm also doing a daily maths as I thought it was what everyone else did. Last year I didn't do this, I had one main maths input but reinforced it through play activities all week and wherever we had a few minutes to spare we'd play counting games or something similar. I just wondered what everyone else did x

Reception Behaviour

Hi all, currently I am finding my Reception class's behaviour very challenging! We have a very large indoor and outdoor space- but only 2 members of staff at any one time, so free-flowing both indoor and outdoor is virtually impossible with their behaviour at the moment! I have been talking and reminding children constantly about class rules and routines e.g. for tidying up, lining up, using the toilets, playing safely, kind hands and feet etc. We have a thinking chair, a class behaviour chart where children move up or down, a class treat box for whole class rewards, and for 3 particularly challenging children they have individual sticker charts for when they achieve …
