Hello all, My new class are visiting for the morning tomorrow. I had an idea of sending each one home with a t-shirt outline on brightly coloured card and a note asking them to decorate over the summer with pictures and photos of things that were special to them or that they'd done over the summer then bring back to school their first week. I thought it would give me an early insight into some of their interests as well as a talking point. I also thought I could cut them out, hang them on a washing line and make a nice, cheery and almost instant display early in the autumn term. It would also work as something I could give the 6 children who are staying …

Hi, Has anybody created/ thought about their end of year report format yet? My SMT would like me to hand in our EYFS format after Easter! Just wondered if anybody had thought about what they may do and how they will incorporate 'characteristics of an effective learner?' Many Thanks

Please could someone advise me on how to delete a child from Tapestry. When we go to 'Edit Child' in the Control Panel the option is not there! Thank you.

Having never taught reception before, I'm not currently meeting their needs. I also have KS1 in my class (I have taught this age before but not for a little while). My KS1 children outnumber the reception and so far there has been a tendency to focus on the older children and just allow the reception to have "independent learning" time ie play with whatever they want. I know this is wrong, but don't know what to do to correct it. What are the musts for a reception classroom? I start phonics with them shortly and feel confident with that side... but continuous provision is causing me a few problems! Thanks in advance (and apologies for the naivety!)

Hi all, Probably a really stupid question but do others still keep records of these abilities in a class-list format? I continue to but try not to 'test' the children instead I seek info through play. The information may be recorded as part of an observation but then I keep it on a class-list for quick reference. Just wondering if others still keep some class-list records? Thanks, Green Hippo x

Hi all, So a new term is virtually upon us, unless some have already started. Amongst the many things that flit in my mind/storage box of ' things to do'...analysing the eyfs data. At the end of term we had not heard back from the LA, presuming they were not so quick in crunching numbers under the new 'profile'. With the consideration of the reformed eyfs curriculum,,, everyone still analysing their data as before? Comparing %, looking at ethnicity/gender/fsm and so forth. ? Skittles

Introducing Continuous Provision in September

Hi, I have been teaching in Early Years for a few years now and I still feel like I 'rush' and dont get the most out of the 'training' phase (showing the children how to use continuous provision) during the first week or two in September. Does anyone have any methodical and clear ways of planning to introduce the continuous provision that I can also share with my TAs so that they know exactly what I expect of them during those weeks. Our school has just had a new head teacher appointed who is much more open to me spending quality time training the children in using continuous provision so Im really keen to grasp the opportunity with both hands and make a really go…

Hi All, I would love to hear the systems which people use to record observations and how these are used for tracking. I have recently moved to a new county into EYFS and the current system seems confusing and I would love to streamline the process to make things easier for everyone. Currently the teachers, TAs and Nursery Nurses observe children and on every observation, whether long/short/spontaneous they note down all areas it links to and the ages and stages it hits (this is all noted on the observation paper) they then highlight the ages and stages on the individual profile in each child's learning journey and then place the observations into their learning jo…

Hi I am going into my third year of teaching and this year I am taking over the numeracy planning. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to make my own long term numeracy plan and then some more time looking on the internet and I'm still not happy with what I have come up with! Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has cracked this and would be happy to share? Thanks in advance, Hannah
