Are there any figures out so we can compare our data nationally and with our county yet? I can't remember when this usually happens!

Hi all . . . Well, it's all over and I am attempting (as many of you probably are too!!) to get back into 'work mode' (and wishing I had attempted it a little earlier!!! I'm having a brain block moment and wondering if anybody can help .. . . . We are currently reorganising our learning environment to incorporate more 'natural' materials / furnishings etc in an attempt to create a calm, stimulating and inspiring enabling environment. I was on a course a couple of years ago now and went to a workshop which was led by a lady who specialised in developing this type of learnign environment - but, do you think I can find the information now I need it!!!!! Does…

Am looking for new ideas as to what to make the role play area into for the beginning of term for our nursery children. Typical home corner style is not inspiring me and what to do something different. We have our normal All about me type of topic, but any new creative ideas would be much appreciated!!

Children learning about money

Hi all, I am just planning my maths activities for next week and I just thought every where I look (in planning books) there is plans for teaching children about money but children don't need to learn about money in reception do they? I suppose it can be used as a means of teaching the other areas like more or less but I think money is really confusing for some children isn't it? If you teach reception what do your children know about money and what are you planning on teaching them. I am an NQT, any help appreciated, thanks

Hi, Hope everyone has been enjoying the summer so far! I have been having a think about a few things I am planning on changing in Nursery and Reception when we get back to school in September and one thing I have been 'encouraged' to start doing by our Academy leaders is displaying targets for the children in the classroom. I have had a few ideas but was wondering if anyone had any lovely examples or pictures they could share. Thanks in advance!

The Big Write in Reception
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi all, So I'm currently planning for the first few weeks of term, and have been told that the school follows the Big Write scheme- including in Reception. I have had a look online and come across something called the Big Talk which seems more appropriate for Reception age but have had no guidance from school and don't really understand how to implement it on a daily basis! I've been told I need to include something called a "pre-write"- again this has really baffled me (not come across this on any teaching practice!). Anyone got any advice or ideas on how to teach the Big Write/Big Talk in Reception? I have seen the book for the Big Talk but due to having no income u…
