Hi, , I have been given the job of extending continuous provision in yr1. Our current Yr R children are quite a clever lot so will need a lot of challenge and extension. Does anyone have any fab ideas of how this can be done and be managable??? Thanks Anje x

Hi all, Just checking my understanding on a couple of things to do with the CoLs. 1. Is it correct that the best 'learners' will demonstrate all/most of the characteristics as outlined in the document? I.e. we want children to develop ALL these characteristics where possible? 2. Can someone explain what is meant by 'developing ideas of grouping, sequences, cause and effect' in the Creating and Thinking Critically section and also 'noticing patterns in their experiences' As usual, I think I'm over-thinking things but thought I'd better check. Thanks Green Hippo x

Hi all, I am in the middle of writing Reception reports. I am a bit stuck with the comments for characteristics of effective learning. Has anyone got general comments for higher ability, middle ability & lower ability? Thank you

Reception Skills.

Hi, Our head wants us to produce a booklet documenting the 'desirable' skills for children to have ready for entering reception in Sept. We have a few basic ideas but we are a small 1 form entry school. I'd be interested in hearing other people's views on this. Things such as being able to put own shoes/wellies on, using a knife and fork independently, being willing to have a go etc.

Hi I have a child in my class - July birthday; I'm just not sure if i can give him expected or not. He can play nicely with hie friends-including playing board games, following the rules and taking turns, building constructions together, etc. But he is not keen on doing adult led activities involving reading, writing etc and will often become upset when he realises its his turn to read, he can also be quite silly at carpet time- but he is a young boy and i not sure of parents reaction as he is already going to be emerging in most area. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Does anyone use the five minute lesson plan in Reception? If so, how do you find it?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some imaginative ideas for a maths observation that I am having right at the end of term by out SIP/HIP not sure what they are called now! I know what sort of 'feeling' I am going for but can't get a context in my head. I will try to explain! I am hoping for something that is related to real life, like I have a big problem and I need their help, that sort of thing. Then I want them in their groups to have to sort of solve the problem through trial and error, maybe with a partner. So I imagine it will be a sort of using and applying lesson. I need to show real progress too. Any ideas? I'm desperate!

Has anybody got a recommendation for the best place to order a lightbox for the classroom? Prefferably one with storage trays underneath?

Wow factor

HI I have an interview on Tuesday for a job I really want and the focus is literacy (or maths) and I want to do it outside, I have 14 children 11 reception and 3 from Nursery altogether with a wide range of abilities. I want to do something interactive and hands on that includes all children. I was thinking of either the gruffello and getting them masks and acting out the story and joining in (but then Im not sure how much challange I can do with this or if it has the wow factor) or We are going on a bear hunt and literally go on a bear hunt outside and have the trays with all the different obstacles in but then I may not keep all 14 engagaed? what do you think?

Just wondering about sending a covering letter with the reports this year as they are so different. Has anyone produced something or can point me in the right direction?
