Hi everyone, our NQT went to a meeting yesterday and one school outlined how the "new thing" is to assign specific statements in the scale points to each of the above 3 categories, so for example if the child had evidence of achieving the first 3 statements in an area, then they would be emerging, if they had those plus the next four, for example, they would be expected and then if they had them all, they would be exceeding etc.etc.This makes it less of a subjective process is what they said and therefore more standardised, so that when we are talking about 40-60 emerging in speaking, we all know what that child can do.as we would know roughly how many of the statements t…

Hi, this is my first post here and I'm hoping, I guess, for some guidance or maybe some comparisons of effective outdoor provision. I'm an experienced EYFS teacher and I currently share a lovely outdoor area with two reception classes (I'm in Nursery). As a new team working together, I feel the past couple of years have been great and we have developed our provision in terms of resources (school investment and the hard work and goodwill of EYFS teachers and TA's). We are also fortunate to have a very creative team and so activity ideas aren't an issue either. Our focus is now on development of the planning and the role of the adult (which is where i still feel has the …

Does anyone have any good book recommendations for Forest School, please? I took my first Forest School morning on Friday and it was a big success; but now I'm stuck on where to go next and will be asking Father Christmas for a book of ideas for Forest School! Recommendations or forest school ideas would be very welcome! :1b

Just wondering if there are any 2-3 form entry schools where Reception staff have separate PPA times.

I am teaching in Reception in an independent school and am new to the EYFS Co-ordinator role. I have twenty children in the class and a full time TA. Do I need to assign half the children to each of us to be their named key worker or can I as the class teacher in a class this size be the key worker for all the children? It would feel odd not to be. Does anyone know the answer?

I have a child who is now in year 1 who still struggles to segment words accurately. He usually manages to get the initial sounds but doesn't get the final one. For example he might say c-a-m instead of cat. If he isn't concentrating he is likely to have difficulty with more of them - maybe getting only the initial sound. This obviously has a big impact on his writing. We reviewed Phase 1 of letters and sounds at the start of his reception year with a big focus on oral segmentation and blending and continued to do this alongside other phases throughout the year. His parents also reinforce this at home - it just isn't sticking! I have some extra TA time which I w…

I would like to set up a 'working wall' but have no wall  ! Space is really limited, but I do have a board which I have yet to use - it is just a small pin board (portable) approx 30 x 60 cms. I would like to use it to add action words and places for the story of 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' but can hardly refer to it as a working wall. Does anyone have any good ideas for a name to suit the 'board', please? :1b

I am hoping that a knowledgable someone will be able to answer a question! Is it statutory, in a reception class, to provide a written report every term or is it acceptable to offer a parent's evening instead of a written report? I have only looked briefly but I see, in Section 2 - Assessment, 'Parents and/or carers should be kept up- to-date with their child's progress and development'. I have not had a chance to look elsewhere in the Framework and am hoping for some guidance here!

Does anyone in reception use WALT/WILF with the children? I am new to reception - I am using it and the children love it, but I was told at a recent observation that it is 'out of date'!
