Hi, Would any kind people on here be able to briefly explain how they implement continuous provision and child-initiated play within a year 1 class. There are a few discussions going-on at the moment about how this can be done effectively but I've not had first-hand experience of the actual planning and implementing of it and wanted to just get a better idea of how it differs from how CP and CI play is implemented within Nursery and Reception. From what I can gather so far there should be more challenges? Would you still offer CI play in it's purest form or is there more direction/more limited choices as to where children play and what is available. Of course the big que…

I am new to FSF and am just finishing my NQT year as a reception teacher. I was really excited this year about visiting the pre-schools/nurseries of my new cohort of children and am mortified that I have been told by my Headteacher that I am not allowed to visit any, nor am I allowed to attend SEP meetings. He has, however, freed up one of my teaching assistants to make contact with all the early years providers to find out if there are any children who it is considered would benefit from a visit and, if so, the Teaching Assistant will be visiting. What are your views on this? My personal belief is that I will learn so much about the children by seeing them in the…

Hello, I have been hearing good things about the book 'Singing Phonics' for a while now and have just ordered myself a copy. I was wondering if anyone has been using this for a while and if they could share with me which songs/lesson they have found particularly effective? Any ideas welcome! Thank you

Parents 'helping' to be nosy

I have a parent who has asked to come and help. She is very nosy and I do not like the thought of her watching my teach. She has said she wants to see how her son learns and what he's doing as he always tells her he's done nothing. What jobs could I have her doing in the corridor while i do the whole class input? So far I've got: sharpening pencils or sorting reading books. But that would take her all of five minutes as neither of these jobs need doing and then I'd be stuck again. Parents are not allowed to photocopy so can't have her doing that and I haven't got any cutting out etc that needs doing. Any suggestions? Please help as I can't stop worrying about her…

We are just about to move our record keeping onto O-Track web based software. Anyone have any experience of it? Positives / negatives? You have to record progress against the 17 aspects of learning - first thoughts are 78 Nurseries (as someone in Y5 called them the other day) x 17 aspects = 1326 bits of data to be inputted every half term.....

For some reason my class have gone a bit hyper and excitable. Noisy on the carpet and constantly 'bubbling', I have to keep them down all the time. Can't give them an inch as they'll take a mile. Any tips? (this has only been in the last few Weeks)
