Hi All, Don't really know if this is the right place to post this. I feel extremely frustrated in my job at the moment. I teach 1 1/2 days in a Reception class and feel that I'm not doing it justice. The teacher I share with uses a topic based approach (which is also quite formal, literacy and numeracy every day!) and basically re-uses planning year on year on year! I'm very keen to plan activities that are more led by the children's interests and needs but just don't know how to do this in the short time I'm in school. On a Thursday afternoon I come in at lunch-time straight into teaching P.E. and then I do circle time after afternoon play. Friday is mine to plan and do…

Hi all Do you all plan an outdoor focus activity everyday? If so how do you manage it and feedback to staff when it involves children from other classes? Do you expect everyone to do it over the week or have a different focus daily or does it depend . Interested to hear how other plan this so all thoughts and advice welcome. Thanks

Poor muscle strength in child
by Guest- 7 replies

Am trying to pick your brains... A child in class has poor muscle strength in arms. It may help to give you some examples, she finds it very difficult to push down on taps to make water come out (no strength), she also hates going on climbing frame, physically scared when up there and doesn't know how to get down. Overall she is showing up within 30-50 age band. I am beginning to worry about her...anyone out there have any suggestions how I can help her or is this a sign of any condition. Your help would be much appreciated

Writing in the EYFS

I'm new to the eyfs this year but had no previous experience of working in a foundation class (i had never seen an eyfs classroom or a eyfs lesson!!!) I explained this to our new head and she sent me another school to observe. I had an amazing time but left slightly worried that im something seriously wrong! Her class were writing full sentences, capitals and fullstops too!! their writing was lovely and neat and they applied their phonics so well... My class cannot do this apart from a couple of bright sparks. I'm a bit worried that they should all be at this level by now? Also our new Head has set some very high (possibly unrealistic) targets for July - how many chn ar…

Hope someone can help I am trying to remember the name of this children's book I've read to a class before and I want to read it again!! It is about a creature that is made up of all different animals on each page you see a different part of the creature and you can't guess what it is as it uses different animal parts then at the end it shows you this creature made up from lots of animals. I'm sure it has the word hop or something in the title ahhh it's really annoying me haha.

Hi all, I haven't posted for a while and I'm not sure whether this is in the correct place or not but my headteacher has just asked me to prepare a 2 sided A4 report about all she should know about eyfs. She understands some bits but its her weaker area and just wants to have a clearer knowledge about it including the assessment. I have some thoughts but I was wondering with all of your fantastic knowledge that you would be able to give me some helpful pointers and tips. I don't want it to be too 'wordy' and was thinking about putting it into sections (obviously) and maybe putting in links to relevant documents, e.g Statutory Framework, Development Matters guidance a…

Hi I have a particularly poor cohort this year phonics reading and writing wise. I thought I was getting there with them but after spending a good portion of last week assessing phase 3 phonics with a view to hopefully moving onto phase 4 this week. It seems i will have to consolidate phase 3 considerably with all but a couple of children who can move to another group in school. It seems obvious that the way we have been going about things is just not working and I need to try something new. I'm an experienced teacher, i keep sessions fun and active but my usual tricks are not working with this group. I need to rethink things so can anyone suggest any fun games I can use?…
