Setting up outdoors

Can I ask how people set up/ enhance their outdoor area. I work in a 3 form entry school with a nursery with which we share the outdoor area and we are sometimes struggling to set up the outdoor area due to time constraints. Our TA s and teachers come in to school and need to set up their phonics as this is the first thing we all teach. Then as that's a very structured session we have free flow straight after . The problem is that although we plan enhancements to areas they don't always get put out so some areas of the outdoor are a little lacking shall we say in engaging the children. My only idea so far is a rota shared between us all , so was just wondering if any one…

Each member of my team has either visited other schools and nurseries or about to and one thing that is particularly striking is the difference in ratio's. We have have considerably higher ratios in both Nursery and Reception. Nursery 1 to 6 and 1 to 10 in Reception. (As I am sure you all realise with budgets as they are this is not sustainable and therefore this level is unlikely to continue next year) We have free flow to the outdoors in both. Nursery is one large room in a L shape and in Reception we have 2 classes and a share indoor area. Our outcomes, levels, attainment (which ever way you look at it ) aren't considerably higher than these other settings so…

Assessments ready for Moderation

We are being moderated on the new profile this year and need to provide the moderators with a list showing all the children's levels as they stand at the beginning of May. We have looked at the exemplification materials and our observations show that currently most of the children are meeting DM40-60+ with some Emerging ELGs. By the beginning of May (which is really only 2-3 more weeks of school), hopefully most will be acheiving Emerging ELGs with some children achieving Expected ELGs in some areas. Does this seem about right? I know all settings are different but would be interested to know how others are getting on. Thank you

do most reception classes go out every day? winter too? am in nursery and we go out every day, and i feel sorry for my old children being cooped up. they just seem to go out for a 'run around' after assembly etc. perhaps things have changed since i was in reception a few years ago, but we went out every day too? what do you all do?

I have a very able child in my class - is soaking things up like a sponge. While lovely he also has a tendency to be somewhat cheeky and recently he's started rushing everything. His writing has become careless and 'scrawly' and where he wrote in great sentences (often accurately punctuated) he is now writing things which can still be read but don't really count as sentences. In maths today we were doing a problem solving activity and he whizzed through it with lots of consequent inaccuracies where I'm sure he would usually have been really throughtful. If I have challenges in class he is always one of the first to do them but never at the level I know he is capable o…

Interview lesson help needed!

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me as I've hit a brick wall...I need to teach a UW 20minute session to 6 children and I want to focus on the learning of 'knowing about similarities and differences' by looking closely at things. I thought about being detectives where we have to investigate objects but I just can't think of objects to get that are easy to transport and that the children will be able to talk about how they are similar or different. If you have any ideas I would really appreciate it maybe you have done something around this LO before?? Thanks in advance
